Thunderbolts*’ God-Tier Character Steals His Powers From 3 Original Avengers In Shocking MCU Theory

Sentry will gain his powers from Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America in Thunderbolts* according to a bold MCU fan theory. Phase 5"s upcoming Thunderbolts* will introduce Lewis Pullman"s Sentry a.k.a. Bob — a regular human who could turn into one of the most powerful MCU characters in the MCU"s main timeline. The first Thunderbolts* trailer reveals that the titular team will meet each other for the first time when they get locked in the same room as Bob, who appears to them wearing a hospital gown. This trailer suggests that soon afterward, "Bob" will transform into the powerful Sentry.
The Thunderbolts* trailer also reveals a couple of surprising updates. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has been confirmed to be the new owner of Avengers Tower, and she keeps important pieces of Avengers history such as Loki"s Scepter on display. The Thunderbolts* trailer"s reveals also include a look at Bucky Barnes" vibranium arm, a new look at the main cast"s new costumes and weapons, and a brief shot of Sentry"s belt buckle. Besides being an iconic part of his comic book costume, Sentry"s belt buckle might be hiding the key to his superhuman transformation.
Sentry May Be Enhanced By Thor’s Magic Belt From Spider-Man: Homecoming Happy Hogan Confirmed Iron Man Designed Thor's Magic Belt Back In Phase 3 Custom image by Nicolas Ayala In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Happy Hogan is shown emptying the Avengers Tower in order to sell it to a mysterious buyer. While speaking to Peter Parker on the phone, Happy mentions "Tony"s old Hulkbuster armor, a prototype for Cap"s new shield and for Megin… Me... Meg… Thor’s magic belt." Iron Man"s Hulkbuster armor was redesigned and improved for Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America"s prototype shield appears as an easter egg in Happy"s office in Deadpool & Wolverine, and Thor"s magic belt may appear in Thunderbolts* in the form of Sentry"s belt buckle.
Given that Thor"s magic belt hasn"t been mentioned since Spider-Man: Homecoming, it"s possible that Val kept it and used it for one of her secret projects
Since Thunderbolts* reveals that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is the Avengers Tower"s mysterious buyer, it"s likely that Val"s purchase of the tower included the acquisition of more artifacts than just Loki"s Scepter. While Deadpool & Wolverine revealed that Tony Stark"s prototype Captain America shield landed in Happy Hogan"s office by 2018, Iron Man"s first Hulkbuster armor and Thor"s magic belt may have landed in Val"s hands. Given that Thor"s magic belt hasn"t been mentioned since Spider-Man: Homecoming, it"s possible that Val kept it and used it for one of her secret projects.
What Thor’s Megingjord Does In Marvel Comics Thor's Magic Belt Comes From Norse Mythology In both the comics and real-life Norse mythology, Thor"s "magic belt" is called Megingjord — the "Belt of Power". According to both sources, the Megingjord is one of Thor"s three weapons, alongside his hammer Mjolnir and his iron gloves Jarngreipr. Just like Mjolnir grants its wielder with "the power of Thor", the Megingjord grants Thor twice the amount of his current natural power. When Thor is weakened, his magic belt can restore his full strength, and when Thor is at full power, the Megingjord can make him twice as powerful as usual.
Thor’s Belt Is The Perfect Explanation For Sentry's MCU Superpowers Thor's Megingjord Could Be What Provides The MCU's Sentry With Flight, Energy Projection, And Godlike Strength Custom image by Nicolas Ayala The Megingjord usually comes with negative side effects. Depending on the comic, Thor either gets his energy drained by the belt or becomes corrupted after removing it. Both the magic belt"s power enhancements and side effects perfectly fit Sentry, who gains the power of "a million exploding suns" from the Golden Sentry Serum in the comics, but may need a regulator to enhance and control his power in the MCU. Instead of just doubling Bob"s base power, Sentry"s belt could activate the Golden Entry Serum and infuse it with a dose of Asgardian power.
Related Why Steven Yeun Was Recast As Sentry In Marvel's Thunderbolts* Movie Steven Yeun was initially cast as the superhero Sentry in the MCU’s Thunderbolts*. However, Yeun was recast in the role, with many wondering why.
The MCU"s version of the Golden Sentry Serum may be the perfect variation of Captain America"s Super Soldier serum, which many scientists and villains have been trying to replicate and improve throughout the decades within the MCU. However, the serum could only reach a certain limit, possibly granting Bob with speed akin to Black Panther"s, agility akin to Spider-Man"s, and strength akin to Hulk"s. But in order to transform into a comic-accurate Sentry, Bob might need magical energy derived from Thor"s upgraded magic belt.
Thor"s magic belt could then explain why the MCU"s Sentry is capable of flying, absorbing and shooting energy, and surpassing the strength levels of any human superhero
Tony Stark might have gotten some DNA from Thor and used it to store some of his power in the Megingjord in case Thor was ever stripped of his powers like he was in 2011"s Thor. Thor"s magic belt could then explain why the MCU"s Sentry is capable of flying, absorbing and shooting energy, and surpassing the strength levels of any human superhero. After all, there"s only so much a Super Soldier Serum can do to a regular human being. Curiously, this would resemble Thor"s original Marvel Comics origin — as the regular human Donald Blake, who could transform into Thor by hitting anything with his cane.
Thor’s Magic Belt Could Continue Iron Man’s Questionable MCU Legacy Iron Man Might Have Created Yet Another Dangerous Villain Even After His Death Close If Thor"s magic belt does play a role in Bob"s transformation into Sentry, it would mean that Tony Stark"s inventions are still a danger to humanity several years after his death. In trying to create "a suit of armor around the world" during Avengers: Age of Ultron, Stark accidentally created one of the Avengers" biggest foes. Before that, Stark Industries" bombs killed Wanda Maximoff"s parents, initiating a downward spiral that ended in her transformation into the universe-hopping Scarlet Witch. And shortly after Happy Hogan"s mention of Thor"s belt in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man kept Vulture from stealing several Stark-made weapons.
Tony Stark"s refusal to stop Vulture himself also led to the birth of Shocker, the Tinkerer, and probably the Scorpion and Prowler.
Following Iron Man"s death in Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark"s gift to Spider-Man landed in Mysterio"s hands. Mysterio"s misuse of the EDITH glasses turned Stark"s drones into weapons, threatened various cities around the world, and led to Peter Parker"s secret identity being made public. Iron Man may have designed the Megingjord as a gift for Thor, but now that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has acquired the Avengers Tower, the belt may have ended up creating yet another supervillain in Thunderbolts*.
