It"s Taken Five MCU Phases, But We Now Have A Satisfying Answer To The Avengers" Biggest Plot Hole

Summary
  • The Marvel Cinematic Universe Multiverse Saga addresses the concern of why certain Avengers are absent in solo movies by showcasing a wider range of threats and introducing new heroes to handle them.
  • The explanation provided in the book Look Out For The Little Guy suggests that Avengers focus on tackling major threats that regular humans cannot handle, which is why they don't intervene in each other's solo adventures.
  • The growing roster of heroes in the Multiverse Saga allows for multiple hero teams to exist, with street-level heroes handling grounded threats and heavy hitters like Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange dealing with larger threats. This expansion of the MCU provides a solution to the Avengers' availability issue.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe Multiverse Saga solves an old franchise issue that began after 2012’s The Avengers. The Avengers was not only an overnight success that made the MCU an instant A-list movie franchise, but it also changed the pop culture landscape itself by popularizing comic book-style shared universe storytelling. Unfortunately, however, the superhero movie genre’s newfound popularity also came with an understandable concern from viewers.
The MCU’s first three phases, now known as The Infinity Saga, began by introducing the core Avengers team members through solo movies before bringing them all together to defend New York from Loki and an army of Chitauri. The following two phases in the MCU timeline would continue the individual stories of The Avengers and introduce new heroes through more solo movies before uniting them once again in Avengers sequels. While a tried-and-true method of building and maintaining a franchise, this structure also will inevitably make viewers wonder why Avengers like Iron Man is not around to help Captain America in the latter’s solo movie, for instance.
