Daredevil: Born Again Drama Unveils The Complicated Truth About MCU Revivals

Summary
  • Steven DeKnight, former Daredevil showrunner, criticizes Disney for treating Daredevil: Born Again as a brand-new show, calling it an "old Disney scam" to avoid contractual payments.
  • DeKnight hopes that the issues he raised with Daredevil: Born Again will be addressed through the ongoing strikes by guilds and unions in Hollywood.
  • The naming convention of Daredevil: Born Again raises questions about how companies can use slight changes in show titles to pay crew and creatives less, which DeKnight accuses Disney of doing. Marvel Studios and Disney+ have not responded to DeKnight's comments.
Despite being one of the most highly anticipated upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, new Daredevil: Born Again drama has emerged and raises a problem with television series revivals. Matt Murdock is getting another go in the MCU after Charlie Cox reprised the role in MCU Phase 4 years after Daredevil ended on Netflix. While filming had started on Daredevil: Born Again season 1, production is currently on pause due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
With the release of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock will be the first character from Marvel's Netflix Defenders series to headline his own project in the modern MCU. Daredevil's Netflix series (now only available on Disney+) is one of the most well-received MCU projects to this date, making Cox's return as The Man Without Fear even more exciting. However, that isn't to say the process is without its problems, and questions over the way the revival is being handled by Disney have ignited a debate over whether Daredevil: Born Again is really a brand-new show or not.
