The therapy scene between Data (Brent Spiner) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) in Star Trek: Picard season 3's finale was a great Brent Spiner idea. Picard season 3 ​​​​​​follows Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) as he gets the old Star Trek: The Next Generation band back together to save the galaxy from the Borg and the Changelings. Along the way, Data, a rebuilt hybrid Soong android, is reunited with his friends from the USS Enterprise-D.
Star Trek: Picard season 3 received near universal acclaim, and was recently released on Blu-ray and DVD with special features, including audio commentaries for certain episodes. In the commentary for Picard season 3, episode 10, "The Last Generation," Jonathan Frakes reveals that the therapy scene between Data and Counselor Troi was the brainchild of Brent Spiner. Frakes goes on to say that Spiner was quite proud of this contribution. The scene not only shows the love and support Captain Riker and Counselor Troi show to their "batsh*it" friend, Data, but also highlights the wonderful new experiences now open for Data.
