Summary

  • Many fans on Twitter have pointed out that the conflict of Captain America being benched for publicity purposes has already been explored in previous MCU films and series. They question the need for a rehashed plot.
  • The rumored storyline's similarity to past Captain America arcs diminishes the anticipation for the movie and raises concerns about the lack of originality in Sam Wilson's character development.
The latest rumor about Captain America: Brave New World is frustrating a lot of fans because of how familiar the movie's supposed plot is. Years after he first properly assumed his rightful place as the new Captain America, Sam Wilson is making his much-awaited to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the Julius Onah-directed project. In Captain America: Brave New World, Sam will butt heads with Harrison Ford's Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross
According to a new Captain America: Brave New World rumor, the film will see Captain America benched because the now-president Ross believes that he is better used for publicity than being an actual functioning hero. This plot sounds really familiar to many MCU fans, and several of them didn't waste to pointing that out on Twitter. Check out some of their posts below:
One fan cites that Captain America: Brave New World's main conflict is essentially Steve's struggle in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Another one, however, compares it to what Sam already went through in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
A different Marvel fan questions if they can't come up with an original arc for Captain America: Brave New World.
Meanwhile, a different one argues that the whole storyline is pointless because it has been done before.
Sam's supposed arc in Captain America: Brave New World being similar to Steve's 1940s dilemma is re-emphasized.
Finally, another MCU follower jokingly asked if they are also giving Sam his own song, the same way they did with Steve in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Sam Wilson Being Benched Would Explain Secret Invasion's Plot Hole For context, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended with Sam finally assuming his position as the new Star-Spangled Avenger — just as Steve intended him to be. Despite the skepticism of many, especially in light of John Walker's disastrous stint as Captain America, Sam's finale speech was powerful enough to convince the population that he is worthy of wielding the iconic shield. If the rumor about his conflict with Ross pans out, however, then Sam will have to continue proving that he is the rightful heir to Steve.
In the bigger scheme of things, the alleged plot of Captain America: Brave New World can also explain why Sam never tried to get involved in Secret Invasion. Part of the Skrulls' attempt to take over Earth was their plan to pit the USA and Russia against each other. Given his stint as Captain America, it's odd that he seemed unbothered by the brewing global crisis in the Disney+ show. If Ross is really benching him, then it could explain why Sam didn't try to help Nick Fury.
