DC Changes Two-Face"s Backstory & Coin Origin With A Big New Joker Twist

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Gotham Knights season 1, episode 11, "Daddy Issues."A new origin story in Gotham Knights has tied Harvey Dent's trademark coin and the Joker's Daughter together, reconciling the conflicting origins of Two-Face from the comics. Despite being one of Batman's most popular enemies, Two-Face has been portrayed in radically different ways by different writers. In some stories, he is obsessed with duality. In others, Two-Face is captivated by luck and administering his twisted idea of justice, for good or ill, with a coin flip. However, Gotham Knights has found a way to make all these interpretations fit a single character.
The Gotham Knights episode "Daddy Issues" found Harvey Dent abducted by Jane Doe, a con artist recently released from Arkham Asylum on the orders of the Court of Owls. Jane Doe is also the mother of Duela, who grew up believing that she was the Joker's daughter. Mother and daughter were reunited, with Jane presenting a bound Harvey Dent to Duela as a birthday present. Duela expected it was because Jane wanted her to get revenge on the lawman responsible for sending Jane to Arkham Asylum and forcing Duela to grow up without a mother. The truth was far stranger.
