10 DC Movies That Totally Changed How Fans Saw Characters For The Worst

Summary
  • DC movies have sometimes portrayed iconic characters in ways that diverge from their comic book counterparts, hurting their pop-culture reputation.
  • Movies like Batman & Robin and Suicide Squad changed the way fans saw characters like Mr. Freeze, Joker, and Enchantress, presenting them in less exciting or interesting ways.
  • The DCEU has made some controversial choices, including altering the personalities and designs of characters like Lex Luthor, Ares, and Talia al Ghul, resulting in negative reception from fans.
Though many DC Universe movies have presented iconic and definitive depictions of superheroes and villains, others, unfortunately, were poor enough to hurt DC characters' pop-culture reputations. James Gunn's upcoming DC Universe reboot will serve to do away with the controversial DCEU, which saw many characters act markedly differently than they usually do in the comics. Not all the DCEU movies suffered from that issue, and it's also one that's occasionally plagued DC for decades.
While the DCEU is guilty of making some characters' public image worse, it is not solely at fault for the negative trend on the DC side. Before director Zack Snyder started the DCEU with Henry Cavill's Superman in 2013's Man of Steel, quite a few DC movies had already used versions of iconic comic book characters that were far removed from how they are in the source material. While attempting to do something different in a movie rather than simply copying what's on the page is understandable, making characters worse isn't. Here are 10 times DC movies changed how fans saw characters for the worse.
