Across The Spider-Verse"s Box Office Shows The DCEU Was Way More Successful Than You Remember

Summary
  • Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse's box office success highlights the overall success of the DCEU, despite its recent struggles and the need for a reboot.
  • The Spider-Verse sequel's impressive earnings demonstrate Sony Pictures Animation's ability to produce successful Marvel movies, but also how successful past DCEU hits really were.
  • The DCEU's recent box office results have not come close to the record-breaking success of Aquaman, making the financial performance of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse even more impressive at the same time.
Although the DCEU has been struggling enough to warrant a total reboot, the recently released Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse box office takings have helped to illustrate that the DCEU as a whole was way more successful than may be believed. The second in the Spider-Verse trilogy, Across The Spider-Verse has smashed box office records and has become Sony Pictures Animation's biggest success to date.
Throughout its theatrical run, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse made $689,810,862 (via HollywoodHandle) against a production budget of $100m. This is nearly two times the worldwide gross of its predecessor, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and plenty to place the Sony Pictures Animation firmly among the superhero movie big-leagues. With that being said, however, the DCEU timeline still boasts some even greater successes.
