Captain Marvel, in 2019's eponymous Phase 3 film, leading into her involvement in Avengers: Endgame, though there are still huge periods of Captain Marvel's MCU timeline that haven't been explored. Set to release on November 10, 2023, Captain Marvel's sequel The Marvels is expected to reveal more about Danvers' backstory, and will also see the cosmic hero team up with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan in battle against a new villain, Zawe Ashton's Dar-Benn.
Trailers for The Marvels have revealed that Dar-Benn has entangled the abilities of Larson's Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris' Photon, and Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel, meaning that every time they use their light-based abilities, the trio switch places. This will create a brilliant group dynamic in The Marvels, and allow Larson to play a weakness in her otherwise all-powerful Captain Marvel. However, the fact that the trio's powers have been entangled because they're all so similar creates a plot hole if one Phase 5 newcomer isn't included in the action, as 2023's Secret Invasion saw one new hero be enhanced with Danvers' Infinity Stone-infused abilities.
