While audiences eagerly await the superhero team's arrival, director Dan DeLeeuw addresses Loki season 2, episode 2's multiple X-Men Easter eggs. The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe show sees Tom Hiddleston's eponymous God of Mischief racing to restore order to the TVA as the death of He Who Remains results in new branches threatening the multiverse. The most recent episode saw Loki and Owen Wilson's Mobius learn of General Dox's plans to prune every new branch to restore said order, and must team with Sylvie to save those on the new timelines.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss its premiere, Dan DeLeeuw responded to Loki season 2, episode 2's apparent X-Men Easter eggs. The director credited the nods to the mutant team, including a piece of graffiti saying "All M are brothers", to the show's production designer, Kasra Farahani, and acknowledging that while audiences may be making the connections, "it wasn't really planned." See what DeLeeuw explained below:
That's the art department, Kasra, our production designer, is a genius with all the sets, and then in the overall design of the filming, and you can see with the posters in the TVA, if you let the art department run with something, they will just come up with amazing ideas that have a story behind them. But it's something you never would have anticipated showing up on set. It wasn't really planned. It was funny, I had my humanities teacher in university was talking about a book, and she had an idea that the author didn't really agree with, so she told her class, "Well, if it's there, it's there. "And it's like, "Okay, I don't think that was the intention, but, if they wanted it to be there, sure."
When Will Mutants Finally Arrive In The MCU? The London graffiti isn't the only X-Men Easter egg to appear in Loki season 2, as audiences were quick to point out the blast door for the Temporal Loom operation room. With the camera panning from outside the room to the circular lock situated in the middle of the door, comparisons were quickly made to the door leading to Cerebro in the X-Mansion made popular by Fox's X-Men franchise, building further anticipation for the mutants' eventual arrival in the MCU.
The question has long been on audiences' minds of when the superhero team will be introduced to the Marvel franchise following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and the rights reverting to the studio. The MCU has slowly been laying the groundwork for their arrival throughout the years, namely the inclusions of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, albeit with their origins changed. More recently, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Patrick Stewart reprise his role as team leader Professor X, though from a different universe than Fox's, and Ms. Marvel hinting at Kamala's powers stemming from a mutation in her DNA.
