Despite having a dark past, M'Benga attends to his patients with kindness, compassion, and skill.
Every major ship and space station in Star Trek has a medical team of some kind, but Pike's Enterprise has the best medical duo. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley) on Star Trek: The Original Series does not have the same rapport with Nurse Chapel as Dr. M'Benga, and his bedside manner leaves something to be desired. Some Star Trek doctors like Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Dr. Phlox (John Billingsley) on Star Trek: Enterprise do not even have prominently featured nurses. With her considerable knowledge and skill, Nurse Chapel does more than simply support Dr. M'Benga. She not only fights for her patients but also comes up with creative and out-of-the-box solutions.
