James Gunn"s Krypto Unites With David Corenswet, Tyler Hoechlin & Henry Cavill"s Superman In Heartwarming DC Universe Art

Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin"s Men of Steel join David Corenwet"s Superman and Krypto the Superdog through new DC Universe art. As James Gunn"s DC Universe is on the horizon, several beloved DC heroes and villains are being reimagined for a new era of storytelling on the big and small screens. One of them is Superman, with Corenswet set to star as the next live-action version of the Man of Steel in 2025.
Krypto the Superdog will also be appearing in the new universe, following the director"s confirmation of the beloved pet"s presence in the franchise with a new image. As the original photo with Corenswet"s Superman and Krypto became a hit with the DC Universe audience, the talented artist Aaron Bailey shared a version of the image where the Superdog is also sharing the space with Hoechlin and Cavill"s versions of Krypton"s last son. Check it out below.
Cavill"s Superman made a surprise return in 2022"s Black Adam for a special cameo that was meant to lead to more projects with him in the DCEU, but got scrapped once it was revealed that the DC Universe would instead be replacing the now-finished franchise. Hoechlin is currently starring in Superman & Lois season 4, which will bring an end to the series and The CW"s DC TV era for good.
What The Krypto & Superman Art Means For The Man Of Steel's Live-Action Legacy Close While the Superman family has been depicted in numerous ways in live-action, Krypto is a figure who has had a limited amount of presence in TV shows and films that aren"t animated. That is why there is so much excitement for Krypto taking part in the DC Universe"s Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" slate, especially as there has never been a Superman movie with him in it before. The only notable live-action portrayal of Krypto was in the Titans TV show, where he appeared in seasons 2-4.
The fact that there are a lot of fans thrilled about seeing Krypto in Gunn"s Superman movie speaks volumes about the character"s popularity outside the world of comics. With how far filmmaking has reached today, showing Krypto in a major franchise like the DC Universe is more possible than ever, which is why it will be fun to see how Gunn utilizes him throughout Superman and beyond. Given Krypto plays a vital part in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic - which is also being adapted as a DCU film - it seems likely he will show up there next.
Our Take On The Krypto & Superman Art As beautiful as it is seeing Hoechlin and Cavill"s Supermen together with this Krypto, it also highlights how the DCEU movie timeline and Arrowverse didn"t take the opportunity to feature the iconic dog for their respective versions of the Man of Tomorrow. Nevertheless, it is still great that Krypto will play a key role in Gunn"s reboot. Hopefully, more details about Krypto"s depiction in Superman and the rest of the DC Universe will be revealed sooner rather than later.
