While the Avengers have played a central role in four MCU films - five when counting Captain America: Civil War - only Avengers: Age of Ultron showed them at their best. Age Of Ultron’s Opening Scene Shows The Avengers At Their Most Effective

The first of these scenes is the opening of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Aside from the climactic sequences of The Avengers and Avengers: Endgame, the opening action scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron is the only time the team is shown as a united front. This is also when the team is at its most effective. The first MCU Avengers movie from 2012 has much of the team splintered until Captain America takes charge and leads them. Even then, the film splits the Avengers apart and revolves around them largely fighting their own individual battles.
With Age of Ultron though, the continuous one-take opening scene shows the Avengers exhibiting the best teamwork they have ever had. From the combination of their respective powers to the witty banter, never have the Avengers been so close-knit. With Avengers: Infinity War having separate teams of Avengers, and Endgame only truly focusing on the battle aspect of everyone together, Avengers: Age of Ultron has the entire team together to shine.

After the opening action sequence, the Avengers throw a party in the tower, which showcases the team doing something that rarely happens in the MCU: bonding. From Sam and Steve playing pool together to Bruce and Cap talking about girls, Age of Ultron's party scene showcases rare moments of genuine friendship between the heroes.
This is exemplified in arguably the movie's best moment centering on different Avengers attempting to lift Thor's hammer. Seeing heroes that usually bicker and clash because of their huge personalities simply have fun together is heartwarming. Aside from this, it also sets up one of the very best moments of the MCU in which Captain America lifts Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame. These two scenes sum up exactly why, despite its issues, Avengers: Age of Ultron features the best portrayal of its titular team.
