Spider-Man 2099’s Villain Origins Tie To Miles’ Story In Clever Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Theory

Summary
  • Miguel O'Hara may have encountered a Prowler Miles before Miles Morales, adding depth to their dynamic in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
  • The distrust Miguel has for Miles could stem from his awareness of a more villainous Prowler version of Miles, creating an intriguing antagonist dynamic.
  • The theory that Miguel's Spider-Man 2099 has met Prowler Miles could significantly impact Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's narrative.
There is a very real chance that Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Man 2099 had a previous run-in with another Miles Morales before the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse if one Marvel movie theory is correct. Towards the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ending, Miles Morales accidentally winds up in another dimension after the Go-Home-Machine reads the DNA of the spider that bit him. In this universe, Miles Morales becomes the Prowler after his dad dies while Uncle Aaron doesn't, and the film ends on a cliffhanger with the two versions of Miles meeting face-to-face.
Though the main conflict in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse kicks off with the villain Spot, it later shows Miguel O'Hara acting as an antagonistic force against Miles Morales, who wants to stop the canon event of his dad dying. O'Hara's actions take a villainous turn, and he hunts down Miles before he has the chance to go home. It's possible that Miguel O'Hara has already encountered another Miles Morales, which makes his distrust of the main Miles as he breaks the canon even more inevitable, and more interesting prior to Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse's release.

Spider-Man 2099 May Have Met Prowler Miles On His Spider-Verse Travels Miguel O'Hara tasked himself with defending the multi-verse from anomalies like Vulture at the beginning of the movie, who don't belong in the universe they are currently in. These anomalies started due to the events of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Because of this responsibility he placed on himself, it's possible Miguel's Spider-Man 2099 may have encountered the Earth 42 version of Miles Morales, who ends up being the Prowler.
To him, Miles is responsible for everything that has happened to the multiverse he is desperately trying to protect.
Knowing the Earth 42 version of Miles took on a more villainous moniker when he didn't become Spider-Man could be one of the reasons why Miguel seems to have an inherent antagonistic approach towards the main Miles, believing his Spider-Man compatriot may also have a more morally ambiguous outlook himself. Even without this, the concept helps explain why, to Miguel, Miles is responsible for everything that has happened to the multiverse he is desperately trying to protect with his willingness to stop canon events, as Miguel O'Hara claims that Miles Morales is the original anomaly.
Why Prowler Miles Would Set Spider-Man 2099 Against The Spider-Verse Hero During the climactic chase through Nueva York (Miguel's universe), O'Hara reveals that Miles Morales was never supposed to be Spider-Man, believing he is an anomaly. The spider that bit Miles was from another universe, which ended up being Earth 42. When the spider from Earth 42 was brought over to Miles' universe, the other Miles never ended up becoming Spider-Man. Instead, he turned into the Prowler, which shows some of the ramifications that happened, because Miles was bitten even when he wasn't supposed to.
Knowing that another Miles Morales became an antihero at best and supervillain at worst instead of a hero, Miguel O'Hara could already be distrustful of Morales when he shows up at the Spider-Man headquarters in Nueva York. Miles doesn't want to follow all the rules and refuses to let certain canon events happen, and it's possible O'Hara could be projecting his awareness of Prowler Morales onto the main Miles when he seemingly assumes the young Spider-Man has malicious intent.
How The Spider-Verse Theory Improves Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse When Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse eventually releases, the idea that Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Man 2099 has previously encountered the Miles Morales version of the Prowler could add even more weight to the film. Miguel's knowledge of both versions of Miles could potentially cause them to help each other out when Spider-Man 2099 eventually catches up to them. This could add an interesting dynamic to the main Miles Morales, as he has to come to terms with what happened to another version of himself and his family.
Another aspect of this idea that could make Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse an even stronger movie is that it could flesh Miguel O'Hara out even more. Knowing even more of the motivations behind his actions could change him from an outright villain, but continue to keep him as an antagonistic force against Miles throughout. This could add a greater depth to their dynamic as they both fight for their ideals and the possible fate of the multiverse.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the best Spider-Man movies of all time. The way the movie handles the multiverse, canon events, anomalies, and a massive number of Spider-people is nothing short of a miracle. Adding the possibility that one of the movie's villains, Miguel O'Hara, has already encountered the Prowler version before the events of the movie adds an even richer dynamic to the entire narrative, and further progressing the antagonistic relationship Miguel has towards Miles Morales with that possible history helps set up a spectacular finale in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
