X-Men actor Kelsey Grammer reminisces about being Beast's recasting in X-Men: First Class, where Nicholas Hoult replaced him as Hank McCoy. Hank McCoy a.k.a. Beast made his live-action debut in X-Men: The Last Stand. Four years later, a younger version of the mutant was shown as a founding member of Charles Xavier's team in X-Men: First Class. Fox's X-Men franchise moved forward with this version of Beast, who also appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix.
In an episode of THR's Full Comedy Actor Roundtable, Beast's first live-action actor Kelsey Grammer reveals his reaction to Beast's recasting between the release of X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class. According to Grammer, one of "the two most challenging things" he's ever heard is the news that the X-Men franchise was going to go back in time, which he understood entailed a younger actor getting to play Beast instead of him.
