Summary
- The original, despised Deadpool variant was missing in Deadpool & Wolverine due to being killed off in Deadpool 2.
- Deadpool mocked his previous version in the revised Fox X-Men timeline, leading to questions about his demise.
- Even if not killed, the original Deadpool variant would likely not have fit in with the humorous Deadpool Corps.
The original – and worst – Deadpool variant was nowhere to be found in
Deadpool & Wolverine, despite being the target of multiple gags in the previous Deadpool films. Deadpool made his live-action debut in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Ryan Reynolds playing a drastically different iteration of the Merc With a Mouth. In the Marvel film’s finale, Wade Wilson is revealed to have been mutated with the powers of various mutants, becoming William Stryker’s Weapon XI, nicknamed “the Deadpool.” The film itself was poorly received, with many viewers taking issue with this Deadpool, whose mouth was surgically shut.
Although Origins teased Deadpool’s return, Reynolds would play a different, more comic-accurate, and far better-received version of Wade Wilson in the revised Fox X-Men timeline’s 2016 film Deadpool. Deadpool and its 2018 sequel, Deadpool 2, each made a point to mock Reynolds’s first version of Wade Wilson. With Deadpool & Wolverine's many cameos including the Deadpool Corps, comprised of numerous multiversal iterations of Deadpool, some might wonder why
the original (and generally disliked) Deadpool was absent, as his inclusion could have allowed for additional mockery.

8 Where Was The Original Deadpool Variant In Deadpool & Wolverine?
Despite the plethora of Deadpool variants in the Deadpool Corps, the Weapon XI version of Deadpool was not in Deadpool & Wolverine for one simple reason. The revised X-Men timeline’s
Deadpool already killed his original iteration in Deadpool 2. Using Cable’s time-travel device, Deadpool prevented the deaths of Vanessa Carlysle and Peter Wisdom, before going on more humorous escapades, which included killing his Weapon XI doppelgänger and setting up his eventual team-up with Wolverine.
Related Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending is filled with multiversal stakes, insane cameos, and big teases for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
2 How Deadpool managed to kill his original incarnation is unknown, since Weapon XI possessed a healing factor comparable to that of Wolverine, and Deadpool simply shot him in the head repeatedly. In Origins, Deadpool survived decapitation and adamantium bullet wounds to the head were only shown to cause amnesia for the comparably durable Wolverine. While the questions raised here are likely answered by the fact that it was simply funniest to kill the character this way, Deadpool nevertheless manages to kill his original incarnation.
Deadpool used the time-traveling in Deadpool & Wolverine to attempt to join The Avengers in the main MCU timeline, though his attempt was unsuccessful.
Would The Original Deadpool Variant Have Fit In With The Deadpool Corps?
Even if Deadpool had not killed his original Weapon XI iteration, the latter would most likely not be welcomed by the rest of the Deadpool Corps. The Deadpool variants of the Deadpool Corps all have unique traits and gimmicks, but they each have comparably irreverent, humorous personalities like the revised X-Men timeline’s Deadpool (and the comic source material). I
t is difficult to imagine that they would tolerate a humorless Deadpool who was universally poorly received, even if his inclusion would have allowed
Deadpool & Wolverine to make more jokes at his expense.
Deadpool & Wolverine A follow-up to the highly successful Deadpool and Deadpool 2 films starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. The third film will be the first in the franchise to be developed under the Marvel Studios banner following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
