Summary

- Chloe's narrative continued in Smallville Season 11 comics.
Allison Mack was a regular fixture of the DC Universe in
Smallville where she played Chloe Sullivan, but she only appeared in 6 episodes of the show's final season.
Sullivan had the second-longest tenure on the series, behind only Tom Welling, and appeared in 205 episodes, including many of Smallville's most rewatchable episodes. The Superman prequel series pulled the bulk of its main characters from the comic book lore of Superman and Superboy. However, Allison Mack's Chloe Sullivan was an exception, with the charismatic journalist character being an original addition by the show's writers.
Considering the regular departures of the cast from the series, Allison Mack's persistence on the show is notable. While performers like John Glover and Pete Ross III left Smallville early, Mack remained almost until the end.
As an original character, it seemed possible to integrate Chloe into different stories, beginning with her appearing as a Lois Lane archetype and ending with her character fully integrated in the DC world of superheroes. Chloe Sullivan's contribution to the show was considerable, and it's worth looking at why she did not appear in every episode of the final season.
Allison Mack Didn't Intend To Return For Smallville Season 10 Mack Claims That She Ultimately Returned As Chloe For The Fans Close Allison Mack spent much of her young life working on Smallville and was ready to try other things by the time the final season went into production. Speaking to the New York Post and reported on Digital Spy, Mack said she was ready to move on:
"I was just very much ready to enter a new phase of my life." This matches with what many other cast members said about the experience. There is little negativity reported from the performers; it is simply that Smallville ran for a long time. When opportunities to depart came, actors like Mack took them.
Saying that she was coming back for the fans, however, Mack ensured that her character's narrative was set to wrap up:
"I didn’t feel comfortable walking away from the show, and my character, without a completion," she continued. Like with the departure of stars like John Schneider, it was important to use Chloe's final episodes as an effective conclusion to the character. After 9 seasons of television and more than 200 episodes, Chloe was thankfully given the closure she deserved in Smallville's final episodes.
