Marvel’s New Spider-Man Show Can Finally Make Up For Nic Cage"s Lost Superman Movie

Summary
  • Nicolas Cage's lost Superman role may find redemption through his potential casting as Spider-Man Noir in a live-action series.
  • Spider-Man Noir is a period piece set in the 1930s, offering a darker version of the superhero similar to what Cage's Superman Lives could have been.
  • Although Cage did not return for Across the Spider-Verse, his absence doesn't rule out the possibility of him playing Spider-Man Noir in live-action. Age may be a determining factor, but it would be an amazing opportunity for Cage.
A new Spider-Man series could lead to a moment of redemption for Nicolas Cage following his long-lost Superman film. Nicolas Cage was set to star as Superman in Tim Burton's Superman Lives before the project was scrapped in 1998. While Cage did voice Superman in Teens Titans Go! To the Movies and had a CGI cameo as the character in The Flash, many wonder what could have been. The Dream Scenario star finally got to play a big-brand superhero in film thanks to Marvel when he voiced Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.
The character instantly became a fan favorite, and the Spider-Man variant is now getting his own series on Prime Video. Casting information for Spider-Man Noir hasn't been announced, so there is still a chance that Cage could play the character in live-action. If that happened, it would make up for his lost Superman role.

Marvel's Spider-Man Noir Show Casting Can Make Up For Superman Lives There is still a lot that is unknown about Spider-Man Noir. It recently found a co-showrunner in The Punisher's Steve Lightfoot, but story details remain unclear. All that's known from previous reports is that Spider-Man Noir will be a period piece set in the 1930s, with "an older, grizzled superhero" at the center. It's also unknown if it will be the same version from the Spider-Verse films or a different character within Sony's Spider-Man universe.
Still, it's possible that Cage could be cast as the titular hero, and if so, the role has a surprising amount in common with the details that have been revealed about Superman Lives. The Man of Steel's canceled movie would have been a much darker version of the hero (as Noir is to Spider-Man), as the early scripts written by Kevin Smith, Wesley Strick, and Dan Gilroy, were loosely based on "The Death of Superman" storyline. Nobody knows if the Superman movie would have panned out, but it'll would be interesting to see Cage's signature acting style bring out a different side of an established hero years later.
Nicolas Cage Not Being Asked To Record For Across The Spider-Verse Doesn't Mean He's Been Recast Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse
Release Date December 14, 2018 Director Bob Persichetti , Peter Ramsey Rating PG Runtime 117 minutes Genres Animation , Action Cage did not return for Across the Spider-Verse, as the original team was largely left out of Miles Morales' story, except for Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker. However, the character did appear briefly at the end, suggesting Cage could reprise the role in Beyond the Spider-Verse. Still, his absence from the Spider-Verse sequel doesn't mean he's out of the running to play Spider-Man Noir in live-action. Cage is 59, so his age could be a factor more than anything else, but it would still be amazing for the iconic actor to get this opportunity in the Spider-Man franchise.
