DC Just Stole An Iconic Spider-Man Movie Moment In The Best Way

Superman & Lois has been telling some incredible stories in the DC Universe, and a scene from the latest episode is strikingly similar to an iconic moment from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. While the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is still a ways away, some of the best Superman stories on television have actually resembled those films in surprising ways. Like the Spider-Verse films, Superman & Lois contends heavily with legacy and new heroes taking on the powers and responsibilities of old ones.
Season 4 of Superman & Lois has given one of the best looks at Superman dying onscreen, and much of this has been due to exploring the character"s legacy. With Jonathan and Jordan both manifesting powers and with characters like Superboy and even Steel, the show has done a great job in expanding the Superman mythos. While the series is set to end with this final season, the show has done a great job in making Superman an even more fleshed-out and human character than he has ever been before.
Superman & Lois' Jonathan Flight Scene Mirrors The Spider-Verse's "Leap Of Faith" Scene Strongly The Iconic Spider-Verse Scene Is Subtly Recreated In Superman & Lois One of the most famous scenes from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was Miles Morales" leap of faith. In this memorable visual, Miles walks backward off of the ledge, and falls into the city. Before hitting the ground, Miles extends his webs, and begins to move throughout the city as a new, yet familiar, Spider-Man. This iconic Spider-Verse moment is effective as a visual, but it also represents Miles Morales coming into his own as a hero, and genuinely finding himself as Spider-Man.
In Superman & Lois, a recreation of this same scene occurs, and shares the same thematic elements. During the scene, while Jonathan is being trained by his father, he backs up off of an enormous ledge of ice with similar movements. Jonathan falls down a long cavern, then moves quickly and joyfully into flying. The tone and feel of this scene is incredibly similar to the one from Into the Spider-Verse, and it matches the hope and evolution that were symbolized by Miles" discovery of himself and his identity as Spider-Man.
Why It's Great That Superman & Lois And Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Have A Similar Scene Superhero Movies And Television Have A Shared Legacy Close It is unclear if the Superman & Lois scene having so much in common with the Spider-Verse one was intentional, although it would make sense if it was. Both tell similar kinds of superhero stories about how legacy and names and ideas can be passed down to the next generation. Seeing Jonathan come into himself as a hero on the CW show is quite reminiscent of Miles" journey, and this visual cue quickly makes this immediately meaningful and clear.
Whether or not this was intentional, the scene is emotional and effective. While Superman & Lois sets up conflicts at the end of its series, the show clearly has much to say about the longevity of superhero stories and where they must go in the future. Passing down ideas, whether intentional or not, shows the shared legacy of superhero movies, and this kind of storytelling. After all, the Spider-Verse films are some of the most lauded films in recent memory, and there is much to be appreciated and imitated from there.
