  • The introduction of a British Avengers team would allow Marvel Studios to give brighter futures to British or UK-based heroes that have recently debuted in the MCU, such as those from Phase 4's Eternals and Moon Knight.
  • The British Avengers team could play a significant role in the future of the MCU, adapting stories from Marvel Comics' Marvel UK imprint and potentially introducing characters like Captain Britain and Dracula.
A new MCU fan theory suggests that a huge mystery in Phase 5's Secret Invasion may have teased the perfect replacement for Marvel Studios' Avengers in the MCU's future. Since 2019's Avengers: Endgame, the status of the Avengers team has been unclear, as there has been no mention of the group coming back together prior to Phase 6's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. This has left a huge void in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, but there has been speculation that new teams will be introduced to the franchise to assume the role of the Avengers, and one of these could help to explain a burning Phase 5 mystery.
Marvel Studios has spent the MCU's Phases 4 and 5 introducing many new heroes to the MCU, and Phase 5's Secret Invasion was no exception. Despite its negative response and disappointing performance, Secret Invasion set up several major storylines that could become hugely important to the MCU's future. The development of Nick Fury's story saw him return to space to join The Marvels, while on Earth, war was declared against the planet's extraterrestrial inhabitants, and the balance of the MCU's power levels was altered significantly. It's clear that Secret Invasion's story must continue somehow, and a new theory may provide the perfect explanation as to how this could happen organically.
G’iah’s Future After Secret Invasion Is Uncertain One of the most exciting additions to the MCU's Phase 5 was Emilia Clarke's G'iah, who debuted as the daughter of Talos and right-hand-woman to Skrull rebellion leader Gravik. G'iah's loyalties changed throughout Secret Invasion, making her one of the most complex and believable characters, but Secret Invasion's finale saw her receive a huge upgrade that could set up major stories in the MCU's future. Masquerading as Nick Fury, G'iah met with Gravik in the Skrull rebellion's compound, and became enhanced with the Harvest, the DNA samples of several prominent Avengers and a number of terrifying villains, transforming her into a Super Skrull with some remarkable abilities.
Secret Invasion's Harvest included the DNA of many notable superpowered characters who took part in Avengers: Endgame's Battle of Earth. This included Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel, the Mad Titan Thanos, Steve Rogers' Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy members Mantis, Groot, and Drax, as well as the Hulk, the Abomination, T'Challa's Black Panther, and Thor, among many others.
G'iah's upgrade into a Super Skrull allowed her to quickly dispatch of Gravik, proving herself to be one of (if not the) most powerful characters in the MCU's entire roster. Following this battle, G'iah entered into a tentative deal with Olivia Colman's high-ranking MI6 operative Sonya Falsworth, teasing a strong partnership between the pair in the MCU's future. While G'iah's future in the MCU hasn't yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios, her deal with Falsworth has lead to several theories, including one shared by Reddit user justin21856, which suggests that Falsworth will act as a Nick Fury-style figure for a British Avengers team, with the Super Skrull G'iah leading the group.
Who Could Be On G’iah’s British Avengers Team? Close G'iah, of course, isn't actually British, as she is an extraterrestrial Skrull, but since she is portrayed by British Emilia Clarke, and seems to be permanently residing in the United Kingdom while working with Sonya Falsworth, her leading a UK-based Avengers team would be the perfect evolution for her character. Marvel Studios' recent history may also support this theory, as many British or UK-based heroes have made their mark on the MCU. Phase 4's Eternals introduced Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman and Gemma Chan's Sersi to the MCU, both of whom are based in the UK, and could be huge assets to G'iah's future British Avengers team.
While most of 2022's Moon Knight focused on Oscar Isaac's Marc Spector and his Moon Knight superhuman persona, one of Spector's alters, Steven Grant, is British, and operates as Mr. Knight. A British Avengers team would mark a perfect fit for Moon Knight, whose MCU future is still uncertain. Phase 4 also marked the return of Tim Roth's Emil Blonsky, a.k.a. the Abomination, who debuted in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Blonsky, despite being born in Russia, was raised in the UK, and after being freed from prison in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and since he isn't one of the MCU's Thunderbolts, a British Avengers team would be a fine fit.
A British Avengers team in the Multiverse Saga could feature an interdimensional hero.
It's also possible that a British Avengers team in the Multiverse Saga could feature an interdimensional hero, perhaps Hayley Atwell's Captain Carter, a version of Peggy Carter who became a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers. Atwell portrayed Captain Carter in live-action in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, after debuting in the animated What If...? season 1. A British Avengers team could also include any number of Asgardian heroes, all of whom are currently living safely in New Asgard. This could give greater narratives to the likes of Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif, or even the return of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, a.k.a. the Mighty Thor.
The MCU Has Set Up Several Avengers Teams For Phase 6 A UK-based Avengers team isn't the only Avengers replacement that Marvel Studios has teased in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, as several other superhero teams have been teased to be coming together alongside the New Avengers team in Phase 6. Aside from the Thunderbolts team, who have already been confirmed to be forming in Phase 6's Thunderbolts, other unconfirmed Avengers replacement teams have been rumored. Most recently, this includes the Young Avengers, a group of young superheroes who were teased to be formed by Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan at the end of 2023's The Marvels, likely featuring Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop and Kathryn Newton's Cassie Lang, among others.
The Fantastic Four are set to debut in the MCU's Phase 6, but it's likely they will be a more insular group than the more varied Avengers, similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy. After his experience in Phase 4, it's possible that Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange could bring together the MCU's official Illuminati team, while it's also possible that the more street-level Defenders could come together, and potentially even the supernaturally-focused Midnight Sons, which could include the likes of Blade, Werewolf by Night, Moon Knight, and the Scarlet Witch. Of course, the X-Men will soon debut in the MCU, but perhaps not before the end of the Multiverse Saga.
What Role Could The British Avengers Have In The MCU’s Future? While it may seem unnecessary for Marvel Studios to introduce a British Avengers team when the New Avengers will be forming in Phase 6, this potential team could have a huge role in the future of the MCU. Between 1972 and 1995, Marvel Comics developed stories under the Marvel UK imprint, focusing on new superheroes and narratives set in the United Kingdom. A British Avengers team being introduced into the MCU would create the perfect opportunity for these Marvel Comics stories to be adapted into live-action, which could set up an even more exciting and expansive future for the MCU's new heroes.
Adapting stories from Marvel Comics' Marvel UK imprint may create the chance for Captain Britain to debut in the MCU, as he was created specifically for Marvel Comics' British audience in 1976. Captain Britain's sister, Betsy Braddock, is also a notable member of the X-Men as Psylocke, so this could be a great tease towards the future MCU team. This could also mark the introduction of prominent vampire Dracula ahead of Mahershala Ali's debut as Blade, expanding the MCU even further. By setting G'iah up as the leader of a British Avengers team, Secret Invasion may have covertly become one of Marvel Studios' most crucial projects.
