New details about Marvel Zombies emerge as the animated series' central character is revealed by a Marvel Cinematic Universe star. Marvel Zombies has already been confirmed to have a TV-MA rating, putting it in a pretty exclusive MCU club, which only includes upcoming MCU movies Deadpool 3 and Blade, as well as Disney+'s Echo. Marvel Zombies' cast will unite several new MCU characters in animated form, but the series' lead has apparently been revealed.
Speaking with The Direct, Ms. Marvel actress Iman Vellani revealed that Kamala Khan is central to Marvel Zombies' story. According to Vellani, the series' cast has wrapped up recording, with the actress revealing that "Kamala is kind of the center of the show." Vellani went on to describe her returning MCU character in Marvel Zombies by making a The Lord of the Rings reference, saying, "She's basically the Frodo of the story." The actress also noted her excitement over Kamala interacting with other MCU characters. Check out the full quote below:

“We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the 'Marvel Zombies' show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it's like, 'She's basically the Frodo of the story.' And I was like, 'That's amazing.' And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey. And, yes, they're only the voices, and I don't get to hear their voices in real-time. But just, it's my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it's just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”

What To Expect From Marvel Zombies

Marvel Zombies is a spinoff series from the zombies-themed episode of What If...? While the original episode featured some shocking sequences, it was ultimately not as violent as it could have been due to What If...?'s rating. That is now set to change with Marvel Zombies being rated R. The story the show is based on in the comics features quite a few gruesome deaths, and the MCU can now follow that tone in Marvel Zombies.
Several characters that will be part of Marvel Zombies have already been revealed. Vellani's Kamala Khan will get to interact with multiple other MCU heroes, such as Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop, Simu Liu's Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, David Harbour's Red Guardian, and more. Since Phase 4, the MCU has introduced several new characters, and with so many projects coming out over the last few years, most of them have yet to interact.
Marvel Zombies will serve as the first time that fans see some of the MCU's new characters interact, with the series building up excitement for when the main MCU versions of those heroes get together in live-action. By focusing on the newer additions to the MCU, Marvel Zombies also becomes a more unpredictable show, as fans are not yet fully aware of how these characters will react to the series' violent world. With its exciting roster, carte blanche for mature themes and violence, as well as villains that include zombie versions of Ikaris, Captain America, and the Scarlet Witch, Marvel Zombies is looking promising.
