The MCU Can Redeem 3 Marvel Movie Low-Points In A Single Year

Summary
  • Marvel has learned from mistakes, using past films in new releases to make them more critical and relevant.
  • Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World can redeem 3 prior Marvel low points via bringing some characters back.
  • Elektra & Juggernaut's previous movie depictions may be revitalized in Deadpool & Wolverine, and Brave New World could bring The Incredible Hulk properly to the forefront once more.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has worked hard over the years to ensure that each of its components feel important to the universe, and this may occur several times in 1 upcoming Marvel release. Perhaps the most obvious example of this is in Avengers: Endgame, where the heroes revisited scenes from the past. Fixing Thor: The Dark World was complex, as it was considered the worst MCU film then. However, including its scenes in Endgame suddenly made even the things that didn't work in the film more critical and relevant. Marvel has learned that it is possible to fix their mistakes.
Flexibility and the ability to learn from failures without sacrificing the universe allowed the MCU timeline to stand above the DCEU these past years. When fans had a mixed response to the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3, the studio gave a more comic-accurate but culturally sensitive version of the character in Shang-Chi. The studio is aware that, even when things don't work, they can often be tweaked even through mild MCU retcons to greater success. With some low points behind and a bright future ahead, Marvel is set to revitalize some of their past's less loved components in 2024.

Deadpool & Wolverine Can Make Juggernaut Cool Again Vinnie Jones' Costume Has Been Spotted In A Deadpool & Wolverine Photo Close Juggernaut first appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand played by Vinnie Jones. The X-Men film features one of the cringiest moments in any Marvel movie, when, during a chase sequence where he is pursuing Elliot Page's Kitty Pryde, he yells, "I'm the juggernaut, b****!" It is unclear if this dialogue was supposed to be humorous, but it feels strangely out of place in the otherwise serious film. The character did not reappear until Deadpool 2, where Ryan Reynolds voiced a much larger CGI iteration of Juggernaut.
New photos of Deadpool & Wolverine have been put under the microscope by fans, leading to theories that the Vinnie Jones iteration of the Juggernaut may be appearing in the upcoming film. This contradicts what the actor has said about reprising his Deadpool & Wolverine role in a cameo, so this Juggernaut may be played by a different actor. Either way, Deadpool & Wolverine has the chance to redeem the poor reception of this Juggernaut in the film, by making him the tough, imposing threat of the comics.

Elektra's Return Can Redeem A Terribly Received Spin-Off Jennifer Garner Returns As Elektra Natchios In Deadpool & Wolverine Close Although the 2003 Daredevil movie is better than its reputation suggests, the Elektra spinoff that followed it was not. The 2005 film featured a return by Jennifer Garner in the title role with a mostly new cast, including Terence Stamp as Stick. Ben Affleck's Daredevil was also cut from Elektra, removing its tie to the main film timeline. With poor reviews and a dismal box office gross of $57 million that likely did not even cover the production budget, Elektra was a certified flop for the studio that killed any interest in further Daredevil films.
What critics agreed on, however, was that Jennifer Garner was excellent in the role. The actress has a great presence and committed herself to the role of Elektra Natchios with stylish flair. While for a long time it appeared that the Alias star was done with the role, she has since been confirmed to return to Marvel in Deadpool & Wolverine as Elektra. While unclear exactly the size or importance of this role in the film, allowing Jennifer Garner and Elektra to reprize the role and thus redeem the spinoff is an exciting prospect.

Captain America 4 Can Make The Incredible Hulk Essential Viewing Liv Tyler As Betty Ross And Tim Blake Nelson As Samuel Sterns AKA The Leader Appear in Captain America: Brave New World Close Few details from The Incredible Hulk have been explored in the MCU. After Edward Norton was recast with Mark Ruffalo, it seemed that the MCU was looking to distance itself from all of that film’s character iterations. Over the years, this has slowly changed: Thaddeus Ross became progressively more important to the universe, beginning with Captain America: Civil War, and Emil Blonsky featured significantly in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Finally, two of the other most important characters from that film are returning to MCU.
Samuel Sterns, played by Tim Blake Nelson, was teased to turn into the villainous Leader at the end of The Incredible Hulk, and this transformation will finally be realized in Captain America: Brave New World. Additionally, Liv Tyler will reprise her role as Betty Ross in the movie. Both returns appear notable, as they were involved in much of the filming, suggesting something much larger than a cameo. With such great casting, there is hope these iconic characters can be made even more special and important inside the MCU.

Marvel has always worked toward making the MCU bigger and better, which includes its stories. It is always exciting to see how the studio reinvents and reinterprets characters as they go along, transforming them to keep them vital and interesting. The yearlong period in which Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World are set to be released is shaping up to be a pivotal time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially if these Marvel movie low points get revitalized now years down the line.
