Marvel Studios has often snubbed Black Widow in favor of other heroes, and Avengers: Endgame tragically put the final nail in the coffin for the original Avenger who sacrificed herself only a day earlier than Iron Man. Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff and Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark had been connected since the former's MCU debut in 2010's Iron Man 2. Iron Man and Black Widow not only took down Justin Hammer and Ivan Vanko, formed the Avengers together, and battled on the same side in Captain America: Civil War, but they both also sacrificed themselves to defeat the Mad Titan Thanos in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, yet received quite different memorials in the MCU timeline.
Johansson's Natasha Romanoff was central to many MCU storylines during the Infinity Saga, yet was repeatedly neglected and disrespected by Marvel Studios. As the first major female superhero in the MCU - and one of the original MCU Avengers team - Black Widow was often ignored in lieu of the more-powerful male heroes, most of whom received solo projects, whereas Romanoff's first solo MCU adventure, Black Widow, released after her death in Avengers: Endgame. Black Widow never got the development and focus she deserved, and this was highlighted even further in the moments after her emotional sacrifice in Endgame, as this was quickly followed by Tony Stark's Iron Man sacrificing himself to eliminate the Mad Titan Thanos and his army.
