DC Universe"s 9 Creature Commandos Characters Confirmed & Explained

DC Universe’s Creature Commandos characters include a few recognizable DC names but also a lot of characters that have never appeared in either animation or live-action. As promised by James Gunn and Peter Safran during DC Studios’ DC Universe slate announcement, the upcoming franchise will involve animation, live-action, and gaming as part of one interconnected story. Creature Commandos will be the DC Universe’s first animated series, and the characters are expected to make the jump to live-action at some point. Though Gunn’s DC Universe includes Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman-related projects, it is also diving into the more obscure DC Comics characters.
Introduced in Weird War Tales #93, a 1971 DC comic by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick, the Creature Commandos brought together some of the characters that had previously appeared in Weird War Tales in a sort of “horror Justice League.” The Creature Commandos’ origins are tied to World War II in the DC Comics timeline, although a lot of things point to the team being formed in the present day in Gunn's DC Universe timeline. Here is a breakdown of all confirmed Creature Commandos characters, noting that not all of them are members of the team.
9 Rick Flag Sr. Rick Flag Sr., father of the Suicide Squad’s leader Rick Flag Jr., will presumably lead the Creature Commandos. Rick Flag Sr. will be played by Frank Grillo, who previously played Crossbone in Captain America: Civil War after being introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As confirmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Studios will see actors from animated series reprising their roles in live-action and vice versa, raising the question of how exactly the new DC Universe timeline will work. Grillo is not that much older than Joel Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag Jr. in the DCEU, suggesting that The Flash does indeed change a lot of things.
