Director Jonathan Frakes On Star Trek: Discovery Ending With Season 5

With Star Trek: Discovery season 5 set to be the show's final season, director Jonathan Frakes reveals his feelings on the end of Paramount+'s first Star Trek series. In March, Paramount+ made the surprise announcement that Star Trek: Discovery's upcoming 5th season would be its last. Season 5 had already completed filming, but the premiere was delayed to early 2024, with Paramount+ indicating the next year would be spent celebrating the show led by Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).
In an exclusive upcoming interview with Screen Rant to raise awareness for Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer, Jonathan Frakes was asked about the imminent end of Star Trek: Discovery with season 5. Frakes discusses his thoughts on Disco ending and reveals which season 5 episode he directed. Read his quote below:
Jonathan Frakes: I did the first half of the finale of season 5. Then they did the second half. I was very sad to see that show come to an end. They're going to go up to Toronto soon, I think, and create some new material that will give the story of a satisfying ending... is what I believe is happening.

After all the years of having done [TNG] and then the other shows and all the others, branching out and doing a lot of other directing, I was asked to go back into this new next next generation Star Trek that started with me on Discovery and season 1. And so, that was sort of my Home Star Trek show, and I was very attached to the cast. And Sonequa is an astounding leader. And Michelle Paradise has created a world that is different than any of the other Star Treks. So it's been a wonderful ride, and I'm sorry to see it come to an end, but I am filled with fabulous memories.
