Recasting Henry Cavill In The DC Universe: 5 Characters He Could Play

Superman is far from the only character Henry Cavill is capable of bringing to life in the DC Universe. After years of uncertainty regarding Cavil’s future as the Big Blue Boy Scout, there was an impression that the actor would reprise the role in a future Superman movie after an announcement from James Gunn and Cavil. However, those hopes have since been dashed, with it since being confirmed that Cavill’s time as Superman is officially over.
Gunn, as the co-CEO of DC Studios, has made it clear that DC has different plans for Superman going forward. Rather than bring back Cavill for Man of Steel 2, DC intends to recast the iconic superhero with a younger actor and begin his story anew in Superman: Legacy. But while this leaves Cavill without a place in DC’s new cinematic universe, the door is open for him to appear in one of its upcoming projects, albeit not as Clark Kent. Gunn has already stated that “other roles” have been discussed with Henry Cavill, which confirms that additional DC superheroes (or villains) are on the table for the actor. What’s not clear, though, is which characters from its extensive library DC may have in mind. Of the ones available, five in particular stand out as viable options.
Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern Before playing Superman in Man of Steel, Cavill was one of the actors considered for the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds, of course, wound up with the role, but Cavil still has a chance at portraying the Justice League superhero. Lanterns is part of DC’s Gods & Monsters lineup, meaning that the studio is likely to cast a new Jordan in the near future. It’s hard to say if DC would be interested in having Cavill play another principal Justice League member, but Green Lantern and Superman have enough noticeable differences for this pairing to work.
The hotshot pilot-turned-superhero is significantly more arrogant than Superman, which would put distance between Cavill’s two DC characters. The same can be said for their personality, as Jordan isn’t quite as serious. These are both traits that could bring out a side of Cavil not seen in his previous DC movies. One thing that he does have in common with Superman – which could be a boon to the movie if Cavill plays the character – is Jordan’s natural ability to lead.
