Kraven the Hunter Cast & Marvel Character Guide

The cast of Kraven the Hunter is made up of proven Marvel stars and fresh talents who will help continue to develop Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Kraven the Hunter is the third Marvel villain to receive his own movie in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the Marvel franchise that exists parallel to the MCU. He joins Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and Jared Leto's Morbius, as well as Michael Keaton's newly incorporated Vulture, in a cinematic universe of Spider-Man villains where Peter Parker is conspicuously absent.
Kraven the Hunter has been an important part of Spider-Man lore throughout the years, becoming obsessed with hunting down the wall-crawler and starring in the iconic Marvel storyline Kraven's Last Hunt, where he successfully defeated Spider-Man and impersonated him. Kraven's lack of superpowers and extremely determined personality make him an interesting addition to the superhero genre, and his supporting cast also has the potential to make an impact in Sony's corner of the Marvel multiverse.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson As Kraven The Hunter Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in Kraven the Hunter as the titular Spider-Man villain. Before that, Taylor-Johnson had already played a Marvel character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he played Scarlet Witch's twin brother Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. Quicksilver, who died at the end of the same movie. Before joining the MCU, Aaron Taylor-Johnson had starred as a superhero in Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2, where he played the main character, Dave Lizewski. Outside the superhero genre, Aaron Taylor-Johnson starred as John Lennon in Nowhere Boy and appeared in movies such as Anna Karenina, Godzilla, and Nocturnal Animals, all before stealing the spotlight in 2022's Bullet Train as the assassin Tangerine.
Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man's most famous villains, making his debut in 1964, just two years after Spider-Man's first appearance. Kraven is a founding member of the original Sinister Six, which also includes Doctor Octopus, Electro, Vulture, Sandman, and Mysterio. A Sinister Six movie was planned to be set in the Amazing Spider-Man universe starring Andrew Garfield, but after The Amazing Spider-Man 2's commercial failure and Tom Holland's debut as the MCU's Spider-Man, plans for a Sinister Six movie went back to square one and a Kraven the Hunter solo movie began development.
Russell Crowe Russell Crowe joins the Kraven the Hunter cast in an unspecified role, but it's possible that he's playing Kraven's father, Nikolai Kravinoff. Russell Crowe is an A-list Hollywood actor known for his Oscar-winning performance as Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in Ridley Scott's Gladiator, as well as a gifted mathematician in A Beautiful Mind and a boxing champion in Cinderella Man. Like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe also has experience in the superhero genre with two roles in different franchises: Superman's father Jor-El in the DCEU movie Man of Steel and the Greek god Zeus in the MCU's Thor: Love and Thunder.
Ariana DeBose As Calypso Ariana DeBose is confirmed to play the Marvel villain Calypso in Kraven the Hunter. In Marvel Comics, Calypso Elizi is a voodoo priestess with a penchant for manipulating Spider-Man villains like Kraven and The Lizard, as well as fighting heroes such as Spider-Man and Daredevil. Her dark magic gives her abilities such as mind control and resurrection, which she can use to create zombies. Ariana DeBose is a Tony-nominated Broadway actor who starred in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical and appeared in Hamilton, Westworld, and West Side Story, the latter of which earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
