How Titans" Surprise DC Cameos In Season 4 Episode 9 Came Together According To Showrunner

WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from Titans season 4, episode 9.Titans showrunner Greg Walker expands on how those major DC cameos happened in season 4, episode 9, "Dude, Where's My Gar?" As Titans season 4 gets closer to its ending, the HBO Max drama just aired one of the biggest episodes in the final season. Written by Beast Boy himself, Ryan Potter, and Geoff Johns, "Dude, Where's My Gar?" focuses heavily on Gar Logan's connection to The Red. However, DC fans also got a massive homage to the larger live-action multiverse as Titans paid tribute to various shows and movies.
In an exclusive interview with showrunner Greg Walker, the Titans boss went into depth about how this major episode came about. According to Walker, it was all thanks to Potter and Johns' collaboration that many DC films and series were able to get included in this episode. But for Walker, it was also important to be able to tap into "this stream of consciousness" of DC properties, sharing the following:
SR: We need to talk about episode with all of those cameos - Arrowverse's Flash, the DCEU, Stargirl, the Doom Patrol cameos, how much red tape did you guys have to go through to get all of this in?

Greg Walker: Well, that's all Geoff Johns and Ryan Potter working together. They brainstormed this episode that they really came up with, and they worked on it for months. That was always part of the design is to kind of play into a metaphysical multiverse because we're not in a character's head when he's tapping into in the Red, this greater sense of purpose that he has and dimension that he's to tap into [to] understand really what his destiny is. So yeah, Geoff and Ryan really went for it. I was really writing in the back watching them come up with it and work on it. Once when they pitched me that, I thought it would be amazing - I had no idea. Eric Dean Seaton directed it and just killed it visually. So it really feels like we're in this stream of consciousness of amazing DC characters.
