DC Universe’s Superman Reboot Has A Box Office Challenge To Overcome

James Gunn is writing a Superman movie for the DC Universe, Superman: Legacy, and the upcoming Superman reboot already has a box office challenge. How exactly the current DCEU will lead into the new DC Universe, if at all, is difficult to say, but Superman movie reboot essentially means that DC will start a brand new franchise. DC Studios’ DC Universe will cover movies, television, animation, and gaming with a story whose first chapter is titled “Gods and Monsters.” The first live-action movie entry in the new DC Universe, Superman: Legacy will set the tone for the franchise, making it one of the most important DC releases in years.
Given that Man of Steel premiered in 2013 and never received an actual sequence, 2023 marks an entire decade without a solo Superman movie. Superman did return with a leading role in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, as well as with a cameo in Black Adam’s post-credits scene, yet this version of the character played by Henry Cavill will not continue. DC Studios’ Superman: Legacy will see a new actor as the Man of Steel, meaning that all of the Superman-related characters, like Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, are also expected to be recast. Given its importance to the DC Universe, Superman: Legacy has to work.
