Disney Lays Off Controversial Marvel Exec After 30 Years With The Company

The Walt Disney Company has laid off Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter, the chairman of Marvel Entertainment, after 30 years with the company. Perlmutter has been part of Disney since selling Marvel to the Mouse House in 2009 for $4 billion. In the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Perlmutter originally oversaw Kevin Feige. However, the executives butted heads enough times the company restructured so Feige and Marvel Studios reported to Disney's film division instead of Perlmutter.
As reported by The New York Times, Perlmutter has been laid off from his role at Disney, where he oversaw Marvel Entertainment, a division separate from Marvel Studios that dealt with consumer products. According to NYT, Marvel Entertainment will be folded into other Disney divisions. The report further notes that Perlmutter attempted to "shake up" Disney's board in the past year. The move was unsuccessful as newly reinstated CEO Bob Iger announced plans to cut costs and restructure the company.
