"We"re Talking About It": Donald Glover Finally Provides Update On Star Wars Return For Lando TV Show

Donald Glover has finally given an update on the Lando Disney+ TV show that's been in development for the last few years. Spinning off from 2018's Star Wars: A Star Wars Story, the expectation has been that Glover will reprise his role as young Lando Calrissian in an adventure all his own. However, it seems the actor and producer is quite determined to make sure a Lando show would be right with a story worth telling before officially moving forward.
Speaking to GQ about his most iconic characters across film and television, Glover talks about his role as Lando and the potential to bring him to the small screen with his own Disney+ TV show. He also confirms the series is indeed still in development after being announced in 2020 by Lucasfim president Kathleen Kennedy, as well as what it would take to officially move the series forward:
"I mean I would love to play Lando again. It's a fun time to be him. It just needs to be the right way to do it...I'm not interested in doing anything that's just gonna be like a waste of my time or just a paycheck. So it just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be...So yeah I mean, we're talking about it."
Glover ends the Lando segment by saying he can't really share more without Kennedy "hunting him down", so it does seem like there's ongoing progress. The entirety of the interview can be viewed below (discussion on Lando begins at 6:45):
Donald Glover Would Return For Star Wars... But It Has To Be Right It's no secret that Glover is one of Hollywood's busiest actors and producers. Not only have longtime projects such as Atlanta recently concluded, but Glover's ongoing deal with Amazon Studios and first series for the streaming platform entitled Swarm recently premiered in March. He's also set to star in a new version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and reportedly has a deal with Sony to star and produce a movie based on the Spider-Man villain known as the Hypno-Hustler.
With so much happening all at once, it's no wonder that Glover wants to be sure that a Lando show will be worth his time before he fully dives in. Thankfully, he cares enough about the character and his own work as a filmmaker to not jump in immediately. As Glover notes in the interview, time is precious for everyone which is why he wants to make sure a Lando show has everything it needs to be successful and of the highest quality.
