  • The show provides backstory on Loki's team members, revealing their sad and miserable lives before joining the Time Variance Authority (TVA).
  • This full-circle moment for Loki showcases his growth as a character and highlights the potential for his team to surpass the original Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Loki season 2 flips the Avengers' origins story during the Battle of New York in 2012's The Avengers. 12 years after his introduction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the God of Mischief remains an integral part of the franchise as he navigates his way through multiple realities. Loki is uniquely positioned as one of the most exciting players in the Multiverse Saga who was also vital in the Infinity Saga. While the Avengers, or the heroes that are supposed to be part of the team, are oblivious to the fight coming, Loki has been in the trenches, trying to ensure that the threat of Kang the Conqueror never fully materializes.
The irony isn't lost on the idea that the MCU's first collective villain is now poised to be its biggest hero. Granted that this version of the character is different from the Sacred Timeline's iteration who died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, but their shared history makes this variant an effective substitute. Just a little bit over a decade since the God of Mischief launched a brutal attack on New York, he finds himself on the flip side of the same situation in Loki season 2, episode 5, "Science/Fiction."
Loki Finally Has His Own Superhero Team In Season 2 For the most part of his life, Loki has been a loner. He ended up teaming with Thor and their other Asgardian allies as seen in the Revengers in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, but those connections were fleeting. In Loki season 2, however, he finally gets his own team, and he spearheads the effort to assemble them in order to bring the Time Variance Authority (TVA) back. That's primarily the God of Mischief's mission on the heels of the game-changing ending of Loki season 2, episode 4. Traveling through various times and spaces, he recruits OB, Casey, B-15, Sylvie, and Mobius to the cause.
The Loki show deals heavily with the idea of the multiverse, but it has never shown what it's like on the ground until episode 5. The outing reveals what they were doing before they were roped into the TVA, and the majority of them were living sad and miserable lives. OB was a failed science-fiction book author, Casey was a prisoner, Mobius was a struggling father, and Sylvie was stuck in mediocrity. Only B-15 was doing well, but if had she stayed in her timeline, he would have likely been affected by Loki's attack on New York.
