As it currently stands, Kang the Conqueror is the ultimate villain of the Multiverse Saga, and yet, Spot from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse makes Kang look weak. The MCU has been setting up Kang as the next biggest threat to hit the franchise since 2021, when his variant He Who Remains appears in the Loki season 1 finale. This Kang eerily foreshadowed his variants waging another multiversal war, effectively ending all time, if he were to stop maintaining the Sacred Timeline. The second Kang variant in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was apparently so terrifying, Janet Pym refused to speak about him again after she left him.
Loki season 2 continues this build up of Kang, making every character in the TVA either fear him or revere him. But all of this characterization has not been as successful as the MCU may have hoped. Kang's importance and power are still highly questionable. Spot, on the other hand, succeeds because, in many ways, he did the opposite of what Kang did. In the span of one movie, Spot evolved from being written off as just another "villain of the week" into an otherworldly horror that become Miles Morales' worst nightmare. And Spot's effective transformation makes Kang's underwhelming portrayal seem that much worse.
