"Kevin Has A Plan": Secret Invasion Director Explains How He Collaborated With Feige & Marvel Studios

Secret Invasion director Ali Selim breaks down the collaboration process with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. Secret Invasion will focus on Nick Fury as he and Talos attempt to stop a Skrull conspiracy. Fury has been a part of the MCU since appearing in the Iron Man post-credit scene but has always remained largely an enigma. While it remains a mystery how this series will set up and tie into future projects, it will dig into Fury more than any other project and tie back to Captain Marvel.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for Secret Invasion, Selim explained the collaboration process with Marvel Studios. He commended Marvel for being story-focused and working on it until they got it right. Selim also shared how he worked with Feige to make sure Secret Invasion fit into the larger plan while otherwise having free rein. Check out Selim's full quote below:
Ali Selim: Some ideas were killed because Kevin [Feige] has a plan going down the road, and I'm not sure what that plan is. We had free rein until it didn't make sense for the story.
It's incredible how hard we work the story at Marvel. How much you just keep going at it, thinking about it, and re-editing it until you get the story that's going to spark the audience. I've never worked in a laboratory like that, where you just keep at it. I was surprised, but also very happy to be a part of the process.
How The Marvel Studios Collaboration Process Is Story Driven The MCU is unique in how it approaches each project as both a story that must stand on its own and part of a larger universe. In Marvel's Phase One, this was accomplished through origin stories for the majority of the original Avengers before they finally teamed up. Now, in Phase Five, it becomes more tricky with a combination of origin stories, team-ups, and the consequences of decisions made by characters in other projects.
