10 Heir To The Empire Characters Who Can’t Be In The Mandalorian Movie (& Who Replaces Them)

Dave Filoni’s upcoming live-action Star Wars film will tie his Disney+ shows together and possibly adapt Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy, though not all of the Legends-era characters can appear in the movie. While the Expanded Universe (now known as Legends) began in 1977 shortly after A New Hope, the Thrawn Trilogy revitalized the Star Wars franchise between the original and prequel trilogies, leading to a renaissance of Legends-era stories. The Thrawn Trilogy is one of the Legends continuity’s most popular properties, so it is not surprising that its characters and narratives may inspire the upcoming Filoni film.
The Expanded Universe was renamed Legends in April 2014, and while it had been the official Star Wars canon before this point, Lucasfilm’s rebranding relegated its properties to an alternate universe, with the original and prequel Star Wars trilogies taking place in both Legends and the new canon. The post-2014 canon frequently uses the Legends continuity as inspiration for its new lore, but there are a multitude of fundamental differences between the two timelines, making a direct adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy impossible. With this in mind, here are characters from the Thrawn Trilogy that would need to be replaced by characters from Filoni’s Star Wars shows.
