There has been some confusion concerning one moment in the trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which may be hinting at a bigger problem facing the DC Universe. The massive success of 2018's Aquaman made the development of a sequel practically inevitable. Jason Momoa was confirmed to be returning as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2019, with the film's original release date set at December 16, 2022. This was then shifted to March, and later December 2023, before settling on a final release date of December 20, 2023. Despite Aquaman performing incredibly well at the box office, hopes unfortunately aren't as high for the sequel.
The first trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was released on September 14, 2023, revealing the returns of Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman, and Amber Heard. Since Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the final film releasing as part of the DC Extended Universe, there has been confusion about what connections the project will make to Warner Bros.' previous franchise, and whether the film will tease the start of DC Studios' new DC Universe. However, this hasn't been the only confusion surrounding the upcoming film, as many have spotted a detail in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's trailer that doesn't make a great deal of sense.
