Summary

  • The date of Tony Stark's death can be confidently placed in the Fall of 2023, thanks to the evidence presented in the MCU and calculations made by fans.
  • While Marvel has not provided an overtly specific date for Tony Stark's death, the most reasonably argued date is October 17, 2023, based on references in the MCU timeline and WandaVision.
According to statements making the rounds on social media, Tony Stark dies today, on October 17, 2023, in the MCU's Avengers: Endgame, though that claim is worth a fact-check. The events of Avengers: Endgame culminated in Tony Stark's death after he used the Infinity Stones to snap away Thanos and his army for good before succumbing to the immense gamma radiation they produced as a result. Following the 5-year jump between the Snap in 2018 and the Blip, and a handful of dates and timeframes mentioned in surrounding MCU movies, Tony Stark's death can be confidently placed in the Fall of 2023 - but the calculations can go deeper.
It is thanks to Spider-Man: Far From Home that the date can be narrowed to October 2023. This is because the end-of-year school video pegs the Blip as happening "8 months ago." With school years tending to end in June, eight months prior to then would have been October. This is about as accurate as can be reasonably expected from the evidence available in the MCU - but there is reason to believe that October 17 is, in fact, the specific date.

How Fans Determined Oct. 17 As The Date Of Tony Stark's Death In Endgame Initially, October 17 was determined as the specific date that the Hulk, and then Tony, used the Infinity Stones through a series of references pieced together on a fan-made timeline (via Fandom). While vague, the sequence put together by fans pulls from a lot of different references to piece together the exact timeline of events as told by the MCU's characters, background dates, and official resources. Presuming the timeline is right by placing Ant-Man's return from the Quantum Realm on October 3, followed by "two weeks" of shenanigans leading the Avengers up to the Battle of Earth, Tony's death would have been today.
What is interesting, however, is that Marvel itself has made a reference to the specific date October 17, as pointed out by @geekritique_dak (via Twitter/X). They point out that the calendar seen in the opening of WandaVision Episode 7 highlights November 10, 2023. This episode occurs three days after Monica Rambeau's return in Episode 4, which would have therefore been on November 7. As she says that she returned in the Blip "three weeks ago" in that episode, that places the date of the Blip nicely on October 17.
