Loki Season 2’s Ending Makes The MCU’s New Avengers Roster Even More Important

Summary
  • Loki's sacrifice in the season 2 finale of Loki sets the stage for his potential return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, where he will confront the new Avengers roster in the fight against Kang the Conqueror.
  • As God Loki, he has knowledge of both the newer heroes in the MCU and his history with some of the original Avengers, making for interesting reunion possibilities in the upcoming films.
  • Thor, Hawkeye, and Doctor Strange would be ideal choices for the Avengers roster to have impactful reunions with God Loki due to their past connections and knowledge of the multiverse.
Tom Hiddleston became God Loki at the end of Loki season 2, which makes the next Avengers roster more interesting. After more than a decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the God of Mischief has come full circle in his personal arc. Not unlike his Sacred Timeline counterpart, MCU's current Loki variant eventually redeems himself through a sacrificial play. This time, however, he doesn't get killed, but he has also signed away his life in the hopes of a better future for everyone he loves.
In the Loki season 2 finale, "Glorious Purpose" Loki goes to extreme lengths to undo the destruction of the multiverse after their previous attempts failed. Thanks to his ability to time slip, Loki re-traced his steps over and over again just to get the outcome that he wanted. Unfortunately, he eventually realized that there was no way out of the situation — unless he sacrificed himself. He gathered the multiversal branches and held them together, effectively giving all of his friends the chance to live their lives.
God Loki's Story Makes The Avengers 5 & 6 Roster A Potential Major Scene-Changer It's uncertain when, but despite his current situation, God Loki is expected to return to the MCU. Considering that he is a vital player in the multiverse, not to mention his direct ties to He Who Remains and Victor Timely, he will likely play a role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which means that he will come face-to-face with the new Avengers roster who will spearhead the fight against Kang the Conqueror. Depending on the line-up, the MCU has the potential to stage some of the best reunions in the franchise in the Multiverse Saga, considering Loki's history with some of them.
While God Loki is different from the Sacred Timeline's version, he was able to catch up on what his life was going to be if he didn't try to run away with the Tesseract during his very first sit-down conversation with Mobius in the TVA. Given that, it's safe to say that he is familiar with some of the newer heroes in the MCU, who only appeared post-Battle of New York. Couple that with his potential reunion with some of the original Avengers, and Marvel Studios has some interesting options for the reunion sequence.
