Regrettably, Captain America: Brave New World giving Sam Wilson a new suit actively negates one of the character's best MCU storylines. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson's arc centered on his hesitancy to take on the Captain America mantle from Steve Rogers. From the inner turmoil of a black American representing a country where not everyone sees him as equal to the worries that he cannot live up to Steve's legacy, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier offered a thought-provoking, deeply affecting character arc for Sam.
Eventually, Sam realized that he did exemplify everything Captain America should be. In the final episode of the series, Sam embraced this by donning his new Captain America suit and stopping the attacks of the Flag Smashers. Given the long, intense, meaningful journey that he embarked on throughout the show, Sam's suit-up moment as Captain America was immensely satisfying and made the impact of his new Cap suit hit even harder. Unfortunately, replacing this suit for Captain America 4 after it was seen in only one episode nullifies the impact of Sam’s story in favor of merchandising and toy sales.
