Warning: This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along.
Marvel Television"s
Agatha All Along included many incredible Agatha Harkness moments, adding to the Salem witch"s highlights from her MCU debut in WandaVision. Kathryn Hahn"s Agatha Harkness made a huge impact on WandaVision as the magical infiltrator of the Scarlet Witch"s Hex around Westview, New Jersey. Three years after Wanda Maximoff put Agatha under a spell, trapping her as nosy neighbor Agnes, Agatha was broken free and set out with a new coven down the Witches" Road in Agatha All Along.
Agatha Harkness is one of the most interesting and complex new characters introduced to the MCU, and Hahn"s portrayal of the centuries-old witch has been outstanding. Now that Agatha All Along has come to an end with its dramatic double-finale on October 30, more has been revealed about Agatha Harkness" history in the MCU, including her romance with Aubrey Plaza"s Death, the life and death of her son, Nicholas Scratch, and her misuse of the Witches" Road legend. There are surely many more brilliant Agatha Harkness moments to come, but Marvel Studios has already delivered some of the best.
10 Agatha Absorbs Her Coven’s Power WandaVision Episode 8, "Previously On" Close While Agatha Harkness" full MCU timeline has been told somewhat out of chronological order, the earliest moment we"ve seen in her life took place in 1693, which saw a young Agatha put on trial by her own coven. Evanora Harkness, Agatha"s mother and leader of the Salemites, accused Agatha of stealing forbidden knowledge that was above her place and practicing the darkest of magic, betraying her coven.
WandaVision episode 8, "Previously On," opened with this trial, which saw Agatha"s own coven try to kill her, but she quickly turned the tables.
Related The MCU's Changes To Agatha Harkness' Comics Origin & Character Explained Kathryn Hahn"s Agatha Harkness is visibly different from her comic counterpart, as the MCU made a significant changes to her origin and backstory.
1 The source of Agatha Harkness" ability to absorb the energy of other magic-users is yet to be revealed, but she acquired this gift before her coven put her on trial. This meant that Agatha uncontrollably absorbed the magic and life energy of her coven when they fired power at her, with the same fate befalling Agatha"s own mother.
This was a powerful moment that proved Agatha"s darkness, lack of remorse and hunger for power, which are themes that were hugely important to the Salem witch in WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
9 Agatha Is Possessed By Her Mother Agatha All Along Episode 5, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power" Close Centuries after Evanora Harkness" demise at the hands of her daughter, she returned as a ghost in the third trial on the Witches" Road in Agatha All Along. This was Agatha Harkness" own trial, with Evanora first making herself known via a Ouija board, though she soon made a physical appearance, too, when Agatha removed her hands from the planchette. This really leaned into Agatha All Along"s more horror-focused themes, as
Agatha was terrifyingly possessed by the ghost of her mother, with the possessed Agatha literally bending over backwards and attacking Jennifer Kale.

Evanora eventually left Agatha"s body and urged the coven to leave her there before continuing down the Witches" Road.
Evanora claims that Agatha was "born evil," and that she should have killed her the moment she was born, contributing to one of Agatha All Along"s most emotional and heartbreaking moments. This clearly had an impact on Agatha, and the tragedy of this line perhaps prompted Alice to try and save Agatha when she was once again possessed, unfortunately culminating in Alice"s own demise as Agatha absorbed her power.
8 Agatha Has A Vision Of The Darkhold Agatha All Along Episode 3, "Through Many Miles/Of Tricks & Trials" Close As part of the Alewife"s Revenge-poisoned wine in the first trial on the Witches" Road, the entire coven experienced wild, vivid and harrowing hallucinations.
Following the series" finale, it makes sense that these hallucinations were unknowingly created by Billy Maximoff. Jennifer Kale saw a man drown her when it was actually Agatha who bound her, Alice saw her grieving mother moments after telling Billy about her, and Agatha saw the Darkhold in a crib after Jen insinuated that Agatha exchanged her son for the Book of the Damned.

This wasn"t actually the case, as Agatha Harkness seemingly acquired the Darkhold centuries after Nicholas Scratch was claimed by Death. Even so, Kathryn Hahn"s performance when seeing the Darkhold appear in the crib in her Alewife"s Revenge hallucination was astounding.
Agatha felt raw emotion and terror at that moment, which led audiences to believe that she had actually sacrificed her son for the Book of Sins, but this was later debunked. Agatha"s true history with the Darkhold is yet to be seen, but it surely includes something very dark.
7 Agatha Fully Realizes Teen Is Billy Maximoff Agatha All Along Episode 5, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power" Close Joe Locke"s "Teen" was confirmed to be Billy Maximoff"s Wiccan, a.k.a. the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch, at the end of Agatha All Along episode 5. This was a monumental development for Agatha All Along, particularly after the series finale revealed that it was Billy Maximoff"s magic that created the entire world of the Witches" Road and all of its trials.
Agatha Harkness had a feeling that this was the case from the start, as she was the only witch who knew that the Witches" Road wasn"t real, but was a legend created by her centuries prior.

The appearance of the hexagon-shaped door to the Witches" Road began Agatha Harkness" suspicions about "Teen"s" true identity as Billy Maximoff. These thoughts were added-upon throughout the series, culminating in episode 5, which saw Agatha finally reveal that she knew "Teen"s" identity by noting how similar he is to his mother, Wanda Maximoff"s Scarlet Witch. This was a powerful moment from Agatha Harkness, and a shocking moment for the audience, even though it was heavily-theorized that "Teen" was Billy Maximoff - this reveal will go down in history as one of the MCU"s most memorable.
6 Agatha Gives Birth To Nicholas Scratch Agatha All Along Episode 9, "Maiden Mother Crone" Close The life and apparent death of Nicholas Scratch, Agatha Harkness" son, was mentioned heavily throughout Agatha All Along, but the truth wasn"t revealed until Agatha All Along episode 9. While it was originally thought that Agatha had sacrificed her son for the Darkhold, it was revealed that
Nicholas Scratch was actually supposed to be stillborn, but Agatha begged her lover, Death, to spare her son"s life, and Death could only give Agatha an indeterminate amount of time. Nicholas Scratch"s subsequent successful birth was a poignant moment, with Agatha claiming she"d created him "from scratch."
It"s unclear who Nicholas Scratch"s father is in the MCU, or indeed if he even has one.
Nicholas Scratch"s birth at the side of a lake was a touching moment of humanity from Agatha Harkness. This led to six years of happiness for Agatha, though she didn"t stop her nefarious activities of stealing power from other witches. It seemed as though this was to keep Death at bay, as Death returned to claim Nicholas on the night that the child urged his mother to stop killing her sister witches.
Agatha and Death"s love was on full display during Nicholas" birth, as Death showed remorse about having to take him, and ultimately gave her "special treatment."
5 Agatha Makes Life Out Of Death Agatha All Along Episode 8, "Follow Me My Friend/To Glory At The End" Close The final trial on Billy Maximoff"s Witches" Road saw Jennifer Kale unbind herself and Billy find a new body for his brother"s soul, with both Jen and Billy then leaving the Witches" Road. This leaves Agatha Harkness completely alone to complete the trial in the morgue-like basement.
She uses a dandelion seed held within the brooch that contains the locket of Nicholas Scratch"s hair, along with one of her own tears, to grow a plant in the sterile room. "Out of death, life" is such a beautiful sentiment that sees Agatha finally address her son"s demise.
Jac Schaeffer described the last trial on the Witches" Road as being stark because Billy Maximoff was losing energy and enthusiasm for the Road. He didn"t know the Road was his creation at this point, but it was reflected in the starkness of this trial.
This moment was the calm before the storm, as Agatha Harkness grew her dandelion in the seconds before exiting the Witches" Road and fighting Death alongside Billy Maximoff"s Wiccan back at her house in Westview. This addressed Nicholas Scratch"s demise while also proving that Agatha saw a reflection of her own son in Billy Maximoff and, to some extent, Tommy Maximoff, who found a new home in the body of a drowned bullying victim.
This informed Agatha"s subsequent sacrifice and return in Agatha All Along"s finale.
4 Agatha & Her Coven Sing The Ballad Of The Witches’ Road Agatha All Along Episode 2, "Circle Sewn With Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate" Close One of the most powerful moments in Agatha All Along was delivered towards the end of episode 2, as
Agatha Harkness gathered her new coven in her basement to sing "The Ballad of the Witches" Road" and begin their journey on the fabled Road. It was later revealed that Agatha had gathered these witches, and Sharon Davis, with the intention of killing them all, knowing that the Witches" Road wasn"t actually real. Her shock at the appearance of the door to Witches" Road was incredible, and this made their remarkable singing worth something.
Agatha All Along"s cast comprises many incredible vocalists as well as actors, including Broadway and West End star Patti LuPone. This made episode 2"s version of "The Ballad of the Witches" Road" a goosebump-inciting moment.
The song was repeated in different forms throughout the series, most notably when the coven sings Lorna Wu"s version in episode 4 and when Agatha sings the Ballad with other covens in episode 9. Each time was powerful, but the song"s debut in episode 2 will go down in history as one of the MCU"s most memorable music moments.
3 Agatha Sacrifices Herself To Death Agatha All Along Episode 8, "Follow Me My Friend/To Glory At The End" Close To end their battle in Westview, Death offers to spare the life of either Agatha Harkness or Billy Maximoff if the other sacrifices themselves. Initially, Billy offers himself to Death, but he persuades Agatha to take his place after telepathically questioning her she so easily gave up Nicholas Scratch.
Agatha could have sacrificed herself in any number of ways, but she chose to embrace her estranged lover one last time, passionately kissing Death and absorbing some of her power, which was previously revealed would kill her.
Agatha"s sacrifice was teased in Agatha All Along episode 1, "Seekest Thou the Road," when Rio Vidal, a.k.a. Death, urged Agatha to steal her power.
Agatha Harkness" death in Agatha All Along episode 8 was beautifully done. Not only did this produce the MCU"s first lesbian kiss, which is a moment that will be remembered for many years to come, but this was also a tender and heartfelt moment, especially when watching Death"s own emotional response. Death shed a tear for Agatha Harkness before transforming Agatha"s corpse into a vibrant flowerbed.
This moment showcased Agatha"s love for Billy Maximoff and growth throughout the series, as she sacrificed her life to save her son-like figure when she couldn"t do that to save her own biological son.
2 Agatha Returns As A Ghost Agatha All Along Episode 9, "Maiden Mother Crone" Close Thankfully, Agatha Harkness" death didn"t mark the end of her story in the MCU, as she returned in Agatha All Along"s finale as a ghostly apparition.
Agatha has spent most of her history in Marvel Comics as the ghost mentor to Wanda Maximoff"s Scarlet Witch, so it was fantastic to see her take up her spirit form in the MCU. This made complete sense, as Agatha is a Spirit Witch, and urged Death not to show her face to Agatha after her demise, and the reveal of Agatha"s return as a ghost was a brilliant moment.

Agatha returned to reveal the truth about the Witches" Road to Billy Maximoff before setting out with Wiccan to find Tommy Maximoff in his new body. As a ghost, Agatha could easily return in the MCU"s future alongside Billy Maximoff or even the Scarlet Witch, and while some may be shocked, there is a huge amount of precedent from Marvel Comics for this to happen. After Death revealed that she hates ghosts in Agatha All Along episode 5,
Agatha returning as one was a final act of revenge against the lover who she feels betrayed her.
1 Agatha Reveals Herself To The Tune Of Agatha All Along WandaVision Episode 7, "Breaking The Fourth Wall" Close Kathryn Hahn spent most of WandaVision portraying nosy neighbor Agnes O"Connor, playing along with Wanda Maximoff"s sitcom-style world in the Westview Hex. However,
WandaVision episode 7 saw Agnes finally reveal herself to be the witch Agatha Harkness, and this prompted the sometimes-satirical series to deliver the first musical moment for Agatha, as she revealed her actions throughout the series to the tune of "Agatha All Along." This song informed the title for Agatha Harkness" entire spinoff series, and confirmed that it really was Agatha all along.
Related I’ve Just Worked Out What The Title Of Agatha All Along Actually Means & I’m So Annoyed It Took Me This Long The Agatha All Along show"s title has a secret second meaning tied to the MCU series" ending that I can"t believe I didn"t work out until now.
4 Agatha Harkness avoided falling under the Scarlet Witch"s spell in WandaVision, allowing her to remain as Agatha, though play as Agnes. She mind-controlled Evan Peters" Ralph Bohner to infiltrate the Maximoff family as a fake Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. Quicksilver, who also took Teyonah Parris" Monica Rambeau hostage and killed Sparky the dog, all of which was revealed in the "Agatha All Along" song.
This Agatha Harkness moment is one of the most entertaining in the entire MCU, so it was great to see the witch"s music continue in
Agatha All Along.
