The DCU's release slate features an upcoming movie that is poised to break a 35-year DC movie trend in Swamp Thing. With filming for the DCU's first release, Superman, underway, the franchise reboot is poised to reignite enthusiasm for DC's cinematic offerings. James Gunn being at the helm is a positive sign for the franchise, as the comic-loving filmmaker has a proven track record of delivering some of the highest-quality superhero movies in recent memory, including the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and one of the DCEU's most critically acclaimed movies, The Suicide Squad.
Each of these Gunn-led movies tends to feature characters that aren't nearly as popular as the likes of Batman and Superman. With that in mind, the movies on the current DCU release slate that feature less well-known characters are among the most exciting. Among these is the DCU's adaptation of Swamp Thing, one of DC's most bizarre yet iconic characters. Swamp Thing's DCU debut won't be the first time that he's appeared on the big screen, however, as he was last seen in an obscure adaptation in 1989.
