How Loki Season 2"s Ending Sets Up Deadpool 3 & Avengers 5

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Loki season 2, episode 6, "Glorious Purpose."
Summary
  • Loki season 2's finale transformed the Time Variance Authority into an organization dedicated to protecting the multiverse, setting the stage for their involvement in upcoming MCU projects.
  • Deadpool 3, which will explore a major multiversal story, may feature the TVA as its workers now have jurisdiction over every Marvel movie franchise, including the previous films from Fox's X-Men universe.
  • Avengers: The Kang Dynasty could potentially see the TVA joining the fight against Kang the Conqueror, as they possess information on every variant of Kang and are tasked with protecting the multiverse after Loki's actions.
The final moments of Loki season 2 might have perfectly set up some major storylines for Marvel Studios' upcoming Deadpool 3 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Released as part of Phase 5 of the MCU, Loki season 2 caught up with Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief in the wake of He Who Remains' death, the Sacred Timeline's destruction, and the creation of the MCU's multiverse. While it was initially believed that fixing the Time Variance Authority's Temporal Loom would stabilize the new multiverse, Loki realized he needed to embark on a new mission to mend the devastation, which paves the road for some massive multiversal events in the MCU's future.
After learning that expanding the range of the Temporal Loom was a useless endeavor, Loki instead decided to take matters into his own hands in Loki season 2's finale. By gathering up the branching timelines of the multiverse and bringing them together to form Yggdrasil, the tree of the worlds in Norse mythology, Loki not only became the most powerful being in the MCU, but also set the stage for the TVA to have a much more ethical purpose. Instead of pruning timelines, the TVA has now been transformed into an organization to protect the multiverse's infinite realities, which hints at the TVA's major involvement in several upcoming MCU projects.
How Loki Season 2's Ending Sets Up The TVA For Deadpool 3 Close The fact that the Time Variance Authority has now been turned into an organization dedicated to monitoring and protecting the various timelines of the multiverse means that its workers could appear in several upcoming projects in the Multiverse Saga. Notably, 2024's Deadpool 3 is expected to deal with a major multiversal story, as Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, will be making the move from Fox's X-Men universe to the MCU proper, so it's possible that the TVA could appear during the Phase 5 reality-spanning story. Presumably, the TVA now has jurisdiction over every Marvel movie franchise, including Fox's previous films, so they may already be aware of Deadpool's actions.
Will The TVA Appear In Deadpool 3? The appearance of the TVA in Deadpool 3 hasn't yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios, but with production restarting on the project following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it's possible that the TVA's involvement could be unveiled soon. While there's been no official confirmation, the TVA has been rumored for Deadpool 3, specifically naming Owen Wilson's Mobius as the TVA analyst who could come into contact with Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine on their multiversal adventure. Although left unclear at the end of Loki season 2, Mobius will likely return to his work at the TVA, which could make a role in Deadpool 3 even more possible.
Owen Wilson was first rumored to be appearing as Mobius from the TVA by insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha in March 2023, though this hasn't yet been confirmed.
How Loki Season 2's Ending Sets Up Avengers 5's Kang Villains As well as setting up potential storylines for Deadpool 3, Loki season 2's finale also set the stage for 2026's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The final moments of Loki season 2, episode 6, "Glorious Purpose," saw Loki take up his new position as the guardian of the multiverse, while the TVA was rebuilt to protect the various timelines, yet the TVA's new knowledge of He Who Remains, Victor Timely, and other variants of Kang the Conqueror mean that he is still a threat. Kang's mission to destroy entire timelines goes against what the TVA is now trying to accomplish, so Kang and his variants are already on the TVA's radar.
This was proven during an exchange between Mobius and Wunmi Mosaku's Hunter B-15, with the pair sharing a file regarding He Who Remains' variants, and even referring to the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Mobius noted that a Kang variant had caused chaos in "616-adjacent realm," which is presumably referring to the Quantum Realm that Kang the Conqueror transformed into his empire in Quantumania. While he notes that "they [Ant-Man and the Wasp] handled it," the fact that the TVA know about these events means that they are already keeping tabs on the infinite variants of Kang the Conqueror.
Will Loki And The TVA Appear In Avengers 5? Currently, not much is known about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, though the TVA seem to have information on every variant of Kang, including those comprising the Council of Kangs, so they could join the fight. The TVA's mission now is to protect the multiverse after it was unified by Loki, so while Loki may not make an appearance in the MCU's future - Tom Hiddleston has teased the end of his MCU journey - it's likely that the TVA will. Nothing has yet been confirmed by Marvel Studios, but Loki season 2's ending has set up the TVA for a pivotal role in the rest of the MCU's Multiverse Saga.
