Spider-Man Still Hasn"t Met Two Original Avengers 8 Years After His MCU Introduction

Summary
  • Spider-Man hasn't properly met two original Avengers, Thor and Hulk, despite being in the same universe and fighting alongside other heroes in the MCU.
  • Having Spider-Man interact with Thor and Hulk on-screen would be the next logical step for the characters, as they are the last remaining links to the original Avengers team.
  • There are several upcoming MCU movies where Spider-Man could finally properly meet Thor and Hulk, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Among the superheroes from the Infinity Saga that are still active in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and despite fighting with the rest of the MCU’s heroes in Avengers: Endgame, he still hasn’t properly met two of the original Avengers. The MCU has brought to life some of Marvel Comics’ most popular characters, but in Spider-Man’s case, it took him too long to be introduced due to the complicated state of the rights to the character. As a result, Spider-Man debuted in the MCU after the formation of the first Avengers team.
The Avengers Initiative was teased in the post-credits scene of Iron Man, and it wasn’t until The Avengers that the team was officially formed. The team split into two groups in Captain America: Civil War, with Iron Man recruiting young Spider-Man to join his side of the battle, so Peter Parker only formally met some of the original Avengers (and other heroes). Despite fighting alongside the rest of the MCU’s heroes in Avengers: Endgame, there are still two original Avengers that Spider-Man hasn’t properly met, at least on-screen.
Related Spider-Man's Complete MCU Timeline Explained Tom Holland joined the MCU as Spider-Man in 2016"s Captain America: Civil War, and has since become one of the MCU"s most important superheroes.
Spider-Man Hasn't Properly Met Hulk Or Thor On-Screen Yet He Met The Other Avengers During The Events Of Civil War Close Tony Stark became Peter Parker’s mentor in the MCU, so Spider-Man worked closely with Iron Man for years, and in Avengers: Infinity War, Peter met the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange. Given the magnitude of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man wasn’t shown formally meeting the rest of the Avengers and other heroes (though he did introduce himself to Captain Marvel), and there are two Avengers that he hasn’t properly met on-screen yet: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
Spider-Man met Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye in Captain America: Civil War, as Black Widow was (originally) part of Team Iron Man, and Captain America led the opposing team, with Hawkeye being part of it. Although Black Widow and Hawkeye never directly interacted with Spider-Man, the battle at the Leipzig-Halle Airport counts as an on-screen “meeting” – however, Thor and Hulk weren’t present during the Civil War events, so they haven’t properly met the web-slinger.
Following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor left Earth to continue his research on the Infinity Stones, and didn’t return to the MCU until his third solo movie, Thor: Ragnarok. Hulk also left at the end of Age of Ultron to not endanger his fellow Avengers, and he simply departed in a Quinjet. He too returned in Thor: Ragnarok, and he and the God of Thunder rejoined (most of) their Avengers teammates in Avengers: Infinity War.
While the three were briefly shown in the same scene in Avengers: Endgame, it's worth noting both that this was Tony Stark's funeral - so they are all silently paying tribute to Iron Man and not focused on one another - and also that as a result, the trio don't ever interact in this moment. Though this makes sense, as the focus needed to be one of the MCU's most major plot points, it also means that Spider-Man has still not been shown interacting with them.
Why Spider-Man Needs To Properly Meet Hulk & Thor They Are Both Still Active Superheroes, Unlike The Rest Of The Avengers Unfortunately, the original Avengers team didn’t last long, and the heroes started to go their separate ways at the end of Age of Ultron. Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, only two Avengers heroes are still active: Thor and Hulk, as Iron Man and Natasha sacrificed themselves, Captain America decided to stay in the past, and Hawkeye retired at the end of his TV series.
With Spider-Man still around and Thor and Hulk still active, it’s a good time to finally give these three heroes a proper on-screen meeting. Thor and Hulk are the last remaining links to the original Avengers team, and Spider-Man is still one of the youngest heroes in the MCU (and most experienced for his age), so bringing them together feels like the next step for the three of them.
When Spider-Man Could Meet Hulk & Thor In The MCU It Would Make Sense For Him To Meet The Heroes In An Avengers Movie Or His Own Spider-Man 4 Close Since Hulk and Thor are still active in the MCU, along with Spider-Man, there are a few movies where the latter could finally properly interact with the original Avengers. Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars are the most likely movies where Spider-Man could cross paths Hulk and Thor. Since the upcoming Avengers team-up movies will bring Earth's Mightiest Heroes together again for the first time since Avengers: Endgame, it's logical that Hulk and Thor would come face-to-face with the wall-crawling superhero.

However, after the events of the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending, which left Peter Parker's identity forgotten by everyone who'd known him, it's unclear if Spider-Man is still known by the Avengers. If he isn't, Spider-Man might need to be recruited to the Avengers again, which could happen in the potential MCU Spider-Man 4. Though the film doesn't have a release date yet, it is in development at Marvel Studios and Sony and could be fast-tracked to release before Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. So if Spider-Man doesn't encounter Thor and Hulk in Avengers 5 or 6, he could still see the heroes in Spider-Man 4.
All MCU movies are available to stream on Disney+, except The Marvels, which arrives on the platform on February 7, 2024.
