Moon Knight season 2 fan poster raises anticipation for Oscar Isaac's MCU return as the mystic anti-hero. Phase 4 of the MCU introduced several new characters who will likely become key players in the Multiverse Saga — and perhaps after Avengers: Secret Wars as well. One of these characters is Moon Knight, whose first battle against an MCU villain took place across six episodes of the self-titled Moon Knight miniseries. After defeating Arthur Harrow and fully accepting his duties as Khonshu's avatar, Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight is expected to return soon in the MCU, though Moon Knight season 2 updates have been scarce.
Loki is the only MCU show to receive a second season by the beginning of Phase 5, but Moon Knight is also a strong candidate for a Disney+ follow-up. On Instagram, digital artist @marvels.wolverine proposes a creative idea for a Moon Knight season 2 poster, with the hero using his cape to glide in front of the full moon. Is Moon Knight Season 2 Actually Happening?
Although Moon Knight season 1 left the door open for a second season, the possibility of Moon Knight season 2 actually happening hasn't seemed too high. Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab suggests season 2 is unlikely because Marvel's plans simply might not include many second seasons. Most of the MCU's shows are self-contained stories with no solid plans for a direct continuation, and characters like Moon Knight are ready to make the jump to the big screen as soon as they finish making their small-screen debut. Only certain shows like WandaVision and Loki guarantee sequel shows or new seasons, as their premise adapts to the long-form storytelling format more naturally.
Marvel has recognized that their approach to TV hasn't been the best so far. This may sound like bad news for all Marvel series across the board, but in fact, Marvel Studios' TV shakeup may benefit Disney+ shows like Moon Knight. Since very few MCU Disney+ series have taken full advantage of the TV format, Moon Knight season 2 and other shows could receive an overhaul with more episodes and better paced stories. With an improved structure, Moon Knight season 2 seems like an ideal place to revisit open threads from the Moon Knight season 1 finale, including Jake Lockley's introduction and Layla's new responsibilities as the Scarlet Scarab.
With no other confirmed MCU appearances in the Multiverse Saga, Moon Knight's return in Moon Knight season 2 could prepare Oscar Isaac's Steven Grant/Marc Spector for a supporting role in a franchise-wide crossover like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. Considering that it took a couple of years for WandaVision and Loki to get a continuation in the form of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries and Loki season 2, Moon Knight season 2 would be arriving in 2024, if confirmed soon. Only this time, Moon Knight's episode count could extend to more than six.
