Thor: Ragnarok was key not only in Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) story but also in those of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Asgard, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe just threw a weird insult at it in Phase 5. After two adventures with the Avengers and two solo movies, Thor was in serious need of a change in order for his time in the MCU to be extended, and Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok was that needed evolution. Thor: Ragnarok took the God of Thunder on a more comedic path and gave him a bigger and better-developed story that would impact his future, along with those of the ones closest to him.
Thor: Ragnarok followed Thor as he teamed up with the Hulk to escape the alien planet Sakaar so he could save Asgard from Hela (Cate Blanchett), his sister who was about to trigger Ragnarök. During his time in Sakaar, Thor met Valkyrie, a former Valkyrie warrior who was now an alcoholic slave trader. Valkyrie went back to being a warrior and a hero when she teamed up with Thor, Hulk, and Loki to save Asgard, in what Thor named “The Revengers”. The team didn’t last long, but for some reason, Marvel has now thrown a weird insult at it in The Marvels.

The Revengers formed in Sakaar, when Thor and Bruce were trying to come up with a plan to escape. Valkyrie let Thor know she was ready to join his team to escape Sakaar and asked what the name of the team was. Thor replied with “the Revengers”, a wordplay of Avengers and revenge, as Thor and Valkyrie wanted revenge against Hela, but Bruce Banner had no quarrel with her (or anyone, really). Valkyrie later gave him Loki as a peace offering, and so the Revengers found their fourth member. The Revengers were a strange team that formed very fast, though it’s understandable as they had to act fast. The Revengers succeeded in escaping Sakaar though not so much in saving Asgard, but that led to the creation of New Asgard on Earth.
Now, Valkyrie has a cameo appearance in The Marvels as Captain Marvel contacts her to help her give the Skrulls refuge after they were attacked by the Kree. Valkyrie, as King of New Asgard, agrees to help and points out that Danvers now seems to be working in a team, though an “unintentional” one, as Danvers says. Valkyrie then says she’s familiar with being part of an “unintentional team”, though adds that it will benefit her. Valkyrie was referring to her time with the Revengers, which doesn’t make much sense as she actually benefited a lot from being part of the team.
Why Valkyrie's Revengers Complaint Makes No Sense

Valkyrie being part of an “unintentional team” actually saved her as it took her out of Sakaar and allowed her to become a warrior again. Although the Revengers weren’t able to save Asgard, their rescue of the surviving Asgardians led to the creation of New Asgard on Earth, which then led to Valkyrie becoming King. It doesn’t make sense, then, that Valkyrie would be complaining about being in an “unintentional team” when that team saved her life and established her path to Asgard’s throne. Although she tried to soften it by telling Danvers that she would benefit from her team-up with Kamala and Monica, the damage against Thor: Ragnarok was already done.
