During Deadpool's post-credits scene, Wade Wilson confirmed that the time-traveling Cable would be included in the sequel, 2018's Deadpool 2, though revealed that casting hadn't taken place yet. Wilson suggested the likes of Mel Gibson and Dolph Lundgren for the role before throwing Keira Knightley's hat in the ring, too. This was evidently played as a joke for the audience, but the idea of Knightley, who is best known for roles in Love Actually, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and Pride & Prejudice, portraying Cable in Deadpool 2 caught viewers' imaginations and led to some incredible fan art placing Knightley in the role.
This joke could be paid off in the best way possible in Deadpool 3, as Keira Knightley could appear as a multiversal variant of Cable in the Phase 5 film. It wouldn't be too much of a task to gender-swap Cable for Deadpool 3, as this has already been done in the MCU's Loki, and Knightley has plenty of experience in action from films including Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and King Arthur. Knightley's casting as Cable in Deadpool 3 would be the perfect pay-off to Deadpool's post-credits scene and could be a great chance to show off the massive level of possibility in the MCU's multiverse.
Why Deadpool's Post-Credits Scene Named Keira Knightley As Cable

Keira Knightley was only mentioned by Wade Wilson in Deadpool's post-credits scene as a joke, leading off from Wilson proclaiming that whoever was cast as Cable needed to be "a big guy with a flat top." Knightley is evidently the opposite of this description, but Deadpool wasn't wrong when he mentioned that the British actor "has range." Since it's possible that Deadpool 2's post-credits scene shenanigans may have had an impact on the MCU's multiverse, Deadpool's original post-credits scene could also be addressed in Deadpool 3. Keira Knightley's appearance as Cable would certainly be unexpected, but this would be a fantastic addition to the MCU's Multiverse Saga.
