The latest
Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has vindicated a slew of MCU Wolverine theories regarding one spoken line in particular. Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26 and will finally see its titular heroes officially join the MCU canon. Deadpool & Wolverine plot details are still scarce, but some big reveals have emerged through recent trailers and exclusive footage aired at this year's CinemaCon. Through these, audiences know of Deadpool's run-in with the TVA, the genesis of Cassandra Nova, and the fact that many other characters from Fox's X-Men franchise will be making their MCU debuts.
They will, of course, join a rendition of Jackman's Wolverine which looks different to the character that starred throughout Fox's X-Men tenure. Ever since the first promotional image dropped for Deadpool & Wolverine, depicting the titular protagonists together in comic-accurate suits, theories have run rampant as fans speculate over the intricacies of Wolverine's involvement in the movie and Deadpool's MCU integration within the context of the Multiverse Saga. Two trailers later, these theories have been fine-tuned, with a few standout examples being vindicated by a line spoken by Paradox, one of the MCU's newest recruits.

1 Line Hints At Multiple Wolverines In Deadpool & Wolverine
In the second Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, Wolverine is shown to be particularly downhearted and reviled by others. Even as Deadpool threatens Wolverine with a presumably adamantium bullet to the skull, Logan seems to welcome the prospect, as he leans into the barrel with a smile. The possible reasons for this are hinted at by Paradox, who gestures at the lifeless Wolverine while stating "
This Wolverine let down his entire world." The line, paired with other hints in both trailers, suggests that this is just one variant of Wolverine, with others set to appear throughout the movie.
Ryan Reynolds stressed early on that they would not be touching the impactful death of Logan at the climax of his self-titled movie, lending credence to the notion that this Wolverine is a variant.
The nature of Deadpool and Paradox's working relationship is unclear, but it seems apparent that Deadpool is being enlisted by the TVA while motivated by the need to save his own world. Paradox's line confirms that Wolverine is a variant, but this is true of every character that isn't a nexus being the context of the multiverse. Certain factors suggest, however, that Deadpool is set to cycle through variants to help him on his mission.
Why There Could Be More Than 1 Wolverine In Deadpool 3 Close Paradox's reference to "this" Wolverine when speaking to Deadpool is the biggest hint that Deadpool will have encountered more than one variant. By suggesting that Wolverine is just one of many,
the conversation implies Deadpool's awareness of variants as he interacts with the TVA. Moreover, it marries up with a litany of extraneous factors, including Wolverine's personality as it compares to Jackman's Wolverine of Fox's X-Men universe.
Deadpool settling on "this" variant seems to hinge on the fact that he is down and out. The Wolverine in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers seems particularly full of rage and, unsurprisingly, more liberal with deploying f-bombs. As he is then seen teaming up with Deadpool (in addition to fighting him), this suggests that Deadpool will have settled on this jaded variant, as he is more empathetic to the stakes that seemingly place Deadpool's loved ones at risk, however that may be.
Deadpool & Wolverine Already Hinted At Other Wolverine Variants Close With the titular character in Deadpool & Wolverine appearing to be a variant himself, the door is wide open for variants played by other actors to make an appearance.
The established rules surrounding MCU variants dictate that they can look identical or entirely different from one another. In Loki, which explored the concept of variants most deeply in the MCU, the titular character is himself an identical variant of the one that met his demise in the Infinity Saga. Yet, Alligator Loki is an entirely different species. With the titular character in Deadpool & Wolverine appearing to be a variant himself, the door is wide open for variants played by other actors to make an appearance.
In the first trailer, a rear shot of Wolverine sitting at a table looks incredibly similar to Wolverine in his "Patch" persona - which in Deadpool & Wolverine could easily be a variant. Yet this shot has not been followed up with a shot showing Hugh Jackman in a white suit,
which hints at the notion that an entirely different actor will portray the variant. It would not be surprising, therefore, if Deadpool & Wolverine used this possibility to do something like finally pay off one of the biggest Wolverine fan-casts with an appearance by Daniel Radcliffe.
Paradox's line seems to foreshadow this. It could also open the door to multiple other Wolverine fan-casts, including Keanu Reeves. With so many rumored cameos for
Deadpool & Wolverine centering around fan-cast roles, Paradox's line has made this narrative thread even more possible.
