Batman"s 2024 Return Can Show DC Fans How Cool Brendan Fraser"s Lost Villain Would Have Been

Summary
  • Batman: Caped Crusader will showcase Batman's early crime-fighting days, with allies scarce and iconic villains like Two-Face and Catwoman.
  • The series will introduce the lesser-known DC villain Firefly, known for his high-tech arsonist skills and unique costume and gear.
  • Brendan Fraser was set to play Firefly in the canceled Batgirl film, but fans can now see the character in all his compelling supervillain glory in Caped Crusader.
Batman’s next animated TV outing, Batman: Caped Crusader, can bring newfound popularity to a lesser-known DC villain who nearly appeared in a live-action film. Caped Crusader will have Bruce Timm of Batman: The Animated Series fame and Matt Reeves, the director of 2022’s The Batman, as producers in a series set in the 1940s, taking inspiration from the grim and gritty crime dramas of Batman’s early Golden Age comic adventures. One particular villain teased in a Caped Crusader trailer was set to be the antagonist of the canceled DC Extended Universe film Batgirl.
Caped Crusader will depict Batman at an early point in his crime-fighting career. Batman will be at odds with Gotham’s police force almost as often as he will be fighting its criminals and he seemingly lacks allies other than Alfred. Unsurprisingly, some of Batman’s most iconic foes from the comics will appear in Caped Crusader, including Two-Face, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Penguin. The series will also include more obscure Batman villains, such as Onomatopoeia, Clayface (styled after his Golden Age comic appearances), and Firefly.
