David Corenswet"s Superman & Robert Pattinson"s Batman Team Up In Amazing DC Art

Summary
  • A stunning fan-made image brings together Robert Pattinson's Batman and David Corenswet's Superman.
  • Matt Reeves' gritty The Batman universe contrasts with James Gunn's fantastical DCU, making a crossover improbable and potentially disruptive.
  • The standalone nature of Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise and the interconnected nature of James Gunn's DCU are crucial to their success.
An epic piece of DC fan art shows what a Superman and The Batman crossover would look like in live-action. DC is returning from the DCEU's ashes with James Gunn's first chapter of the DCU and several Elseworlds titles. Interconnected live-action films, animated shows, limited series, and standalone titles cover every format and style of DC's upcoming projects, and a carefully planned slate for the DCU aims to streamline the new cinematic universe, avoiding the constant changes in direction that ruined the DCEU.
Artist SPDRMNKYXXIII imagines what a crossover between David Corenswet's Superman and Robert Pattinson's Batman would look like in a DC movie. The artwork shows Corenswet's Superman and Pattinson's Batman standing side by side, posing heroically behind what seems to be a hole in a wall. These two characters cannot meet on the big screen, as they belong to different universes. However, this hypothetical crossover has been gathering popularity on social media. Robert Pattinson's Batman Would Never Fit In David Corenswet's Superman Universe James Gunn's Superman and Matt Reeves' The Batman Belong To Very Different Universes Close Both Robert Pattinson's Batman and David Corenswet's Superman wear grounded suits, and it seems like they have similar character arcs in their debut movies — Pattinson's Batman went from imposing fear on Gotham's residents to becoming a symbol of hope by The Batman's ending scene, and Superman set footage suggests that Corenswet's Clark Kent earns his status as Metropolis' best superhero with blood, sweat, and tears. Yet, Matt Reeves' The Batman universe is extremely gritty and grounded, while James Gunn's DCU seems to be quite fantastical and filled with many metahumans from the start.
Batman and Superman's arcs may also be incompatible despite their similarities. If the world is already acquainted with metahumans, superheroes, and vigilantes during the events of Superman, then the idea of a costumed vigilante fighting crime in Gotham shouldn't be too special in The Batman. In the DCEU, Superman's status as the first known superhero was part of the reason why Batman turned his infamous reputation around. In Matt Reeves' The Batman universe, there doesn't seem to be any crime-fighting hero to look up to beyond Gotham's Batman and Catwoman.
While a crossover between Robert Pattinson's Batman and David Corenswet's Superman would be exciting, keeping their stories separate is the best approach for both. Matt Reeves' plans for The Batman sequels and spinoffs coud rival the quality and popularity of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy due to its standalone nature, and Superman is set to launch the overarching story of James Gunn's DCU, which also includes Batman's DCU debut in Andy Muschietti's upcoming The Brave and the Bold. Not only would a crossover between The Batman and the DCU come off as forced, but it would likely ruin the plans for several upcoming DC projects.
