Kevin Feige assures that the Blade reboot is still going forward following multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe shake-ups with the film. One of the MCU movies that has been in development for several years at Marvel Studios is Blade, with Mahershala Ali set to portray the Marvel icon. However, the reboot has been pushed back numerous times as Blade's development process has continued on into 2024, when the project lost its second director.
In a new interview with BlackTreeTV, Feige opened up on the possibility of more MCU R-rated films after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. Having been asked if this could bode well for Blade, Feige stressed being R-rated was, "inherently the character of Blade," suggesting that the reboot will be R-rated, stating the following:

For the last few years, as we've been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it, and making sure we are making the right Blade movie. Because there were some great Blade movies years ago. They were all rated R. So I think that’s inherent – like Deadpool – that's inherently the character of Blade.

In a separate interview with Blavity's Shadow and Act, Feige gave an update on the Blade reboot in terms of the script, stating Marvel Studios are "committed to the movie," so much so that they "are not going to make it until it's right." While he didn't offer specifics, Feige teased that the Blade script is looking promising so far, sharing:

We are committed to the movie and we're so committed to it that we're not going to make it until it's right. [It] has been frustrating for us and for some fans that it's taken a while but we have a writer working on it now. I've read half of his new draft and it's feeling good so far.

1 Why Blade Getting An R-Rating Is The Best Thing For The MCU Reboot Close The idea of having Blade be R-rated is perhaps the best thing to have been revealed about the reboot amidst all the chaos that has been happening with the film. The MCU has been focused on evolving itself since The Infinity Saga's conclusion and transition into The Multiverse Saga. One of those changes revolves around telling darker stories, and allowing the franchise to show a more mature side of the franchise.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first R-rated movie for the MCU, which has already been appreciated by many in the MCU audience. Allowing Blade to get the same treatment not only honors the roots of the character's comic book mythology but also leans toward the possibility of reaching the same success as the original films. Without the restrictions that come with a PG-13 rating, Blade can also be fully authentic and continue this new era for Marvel Studios, where there is room for R-rated stories.
The bigger question now, however, is when Blade will actually happen, as there is still no director attached nor a filming start date in place. It wouldn't be shocking Blade was eventually pushed to release after The Multiverse Saga, which would be fitting as the MCU is supposedly going through a soft reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars. But for now, the world will have to wait patiently to learn what plans Marvel Studios have for the Blade movie.
